9 bags that look vintage that you can buy online

The vintage trend is having its moment now, and vintage bags are huge. Here are three bag styles in prices for everybody

Vintage is having its moment now. And vintage bags are seriously on-trend. They're one of the most sought-after items on sites like The Fifth Collection and Vestiaire Collective (ICYMI, the Dior Saddle was 2018’s hottest bag). But for those who don't have time to trawl through Ebay, Yahoo Auctions and Amazon, or spend hours in a dusty thrift store, we've found these vintage-looking bags that aren't actually vintage – that you can buy online. These each have a '40s to '60s look to them, have a silhouette to help you avoid a who-wore-it-better situation (awkward!) and come at every price point.

The '50s Clasp

The ‘50s Clasp

From left: Aluminium pouch, $56.90, Topshop, Jute and cotton bag, $69.90, Zara, Simone Rocha satin and feathers pouch, USD$667.56, Net-A-Porter.

The '50s gave us icons like Marlon Brando, Elvis Presley and Dean Martin. It also gave us the clasp bag, designed as a utilitarian carry-all that women were meant to use all the time, for years. Fast forward 60 years, and clasp bags are now as feminine as they are fun. They look great paired with a breezy all-occasion crochet dress, yet won't look out of place at a formal evening do.

Before the dawn of the modern four-wheeler suitcase, travelers in the late 18th Century made do with trunks and hatboxes. The boxy bag still has its purposes. Today's version has evolved to include a shoulder strap to keep it hands-free and, if you like, cross-body. Look here to find out what the most iconic designer box bag of 2019 is.

The Elegant Croc

The Elegant Croc

From left: Embossed PU leather pouch, $55.90, Zara, embossed leather bag, $149, Luxemono, PU leather bag, $45.90, Stradivarius.

Every luxury house has had one of their iconic bags done in crocodile leather: the Hermes Birkin, the Louis Vuitton Saint Cloud and the Gucci Kelly. But in today’s context, where we should be living more kindly, eating more sustainably and being more environmentally aware, we're hailing these three mock-croc options as alternatives. Even better: they look vintage without costing vintage: Zara's is a '40s-looking purse Luxemono has its hatbox, and Stradivarius is doing “vintage” hardware.
