Jean Danker & Glenn Ong

1/7

The proposal was simple and sweet. We were at my parents’ place for dinner when Glenn asked me to come to one of the rooms. And there he was - not on one, but both knees, with a ring in his hand and a big, gleeful smile. It took me a moment to realise what he was doing. Of course, I said yes!

Sin Huey & Anders

2/7

Anders proposed via Whatsapp. I was awakened by the ding of the text alert and an image of champagne, flowers and a ring box on his table along with five lit candles.

In my grogginess, I thought it looked like a prayer or a deathly wedding ritual, and laughed till I went back to sleep - without saying a yes! Poor guy. He must have felt terrible. I finally Whatsapped my acceptance in the morning.

Marie & Nick

3/7

I was actually counting on a proposal during my birthday, and asked Nick if it was going to happen. He said I could expect it towards the end of the year - and I believed him. Nick took me to Osia Steak and Seafood Grill (Resorts World Sentosa) for a very romantic dinner. When we were done with the main course, he went to the restroom.

Shortly afterwards, a waitress handed me a laptop and headphones. My man had recorded a sweet birthday video featuring both of us. At the end of it, I was given an envelope with handwritten instructions and a map which led me to the room at RWS Convention Centre where Nick and I first met.

He was waiting for me with a huge bouquet of flowers. Nick got down on one knee and asked if I would allow him to take care of me for the rest of my life. No prizes for guessing what my answer was.

Peipei & Whye Keat

4/7

The short story: In June 2015, he proposed to me while we were on a trip in Yogyakarta in our hotel room. The longer story? He first proposed in May 2015 in Seoul. We were resting from cycling around Yeouido Park when Keat popped the question with a handcrafted scrapbook and ring box. I was not ready for it then and it was tough on him.

Still, everything worked out during our trip to Indonesia and we are no longer bothered by what happened in South Korea. We even joke about his failed attempt sometimes!

Karen & Lendl

5/7

Lendl proposed while we were on a holiday in Italy at the end of 2014. We were supposed to take a romantic stroll near the Ponte Vecchio (the oldest bridge in the city) in Florence. It was so cold, Lendl was walking with his head down and his hands in his coat pockets. Of course, it didn’t help that my clothes weren’t warm enough.

Just as I was teasing him for not holding my hand to keep it warm, he gently placed it in his coat pocket and slipped a ring onto my finger. I was shocked and then overjoyed.

He told me that he’d bought the ring in Milan before we took off for Florence. We were in Hermes and he’d said he was going to buy a belt while I was looking at other things. Kudos to Lendl for remembering the design I loved, and to the sales consultant for getting the right ring size just by looking at my finger.

Myrelle & Derek

6/7

Derek proposed on Christmas Day on bended knee - even though he had an injury! - with a candlelit dinner on the beach at a resort. I couldn’t have asked for more.

Kyla & Andrew

7/7

It was Christmas Eve when Andrew proposed to me. In front of both the families, he made a speech, got down on one knee and popped the question - as they do in all the sappy romance movies.
