Our pick of the must-buy pants of the season to wear just about anywhere
Hottest pants this season that are flattering and easy to wear in Singapore
By Alex James -
Following the recently concluded Seoul Fashion Week (not to mention those held in the other fashion capitals of the world), we have a pretty good idea of how style is going to pan out this year –and the one item to get for 2017 must surely be a spiffy new pair of pants.
We’ve collated the hottest pants for both the office and the weekend (all of which, by the way, are totally affordable) so have your credit cards on standby for some shopping.
It’s time to refresh your wardrobe with this late-2016 trend that’s steadily gaining traction. Besides being totally comfy, these flattering jeans cut a gorgeous silhouette that lends the illusion of a runway-worthy figure. Image: Net-a-Porter
We recommend that the hem of your jeans be cropped at least 5cm above your ankles to really accentuate the flare. One vital thing to keep in mind is that flared pants can make your legs look shorter, so balance out your figure by tucking in your top and wearing high-heeled ankle boots or pointy pumps. Full-on bell bottoms can be intimidating for even the most adventurous dresser; the classic boot-cut jean is the next best option to get the same effect. Skinny jeans are slowly but surely fading out of the spotlight, and the boot-cut is a delightful compromise for anyone who’s looking to ease into the all-out flared pants. Image: Garbagelapsap
We recommend buying these in darker shades of denim to draw attention away from the sudden change in wardrobe. Also, what better shoes to wear them with than our trusty ankle boots? Image: Zara high rise boot cut jeans, $89.90
Warmer months are dead ahead, and in Singapore there’s nothing better than stylish pants that keep you from frying in the heat. Linen trousers work best in light, sandy colours and are lightweight enough to be comfortable, even on the hottest of days. Image: Mango
Style a pair of khaki-beige linen pants with a breezy cotton blouse and blue shades for a look that’s wonderfully evocative of summer skies and loungey pool parties. Image: Mango linen trousers, $59.90
It’ll be a real shame to miss out on the athleisure movement that’s taken over the fashion world. Think about it; joggers are chic and comfortable, and can be worn for a casual Friday look that’s totally work-appropriate. Image: Net-a-Porter
For a dress-down Friday look, we suggest slipping into dark-coloured joggers with minimal prints and pairing them with bright pumps for a pop of colour. When the weekend rolls around, anything goes, but a little birdie tells us that camo print joggers will be the next big in-thing this season. Image: Adidas joggers, $45
Like we mentioned earlier, it would be a mistake not to hop onto the sporty fashion trends of the year. If, however, you are looking for something a little more reminiscent of high fashion, we have you covered. Try a wide-cut pair of trousers with bright stripes down the side of the pants leg for an edgy “editorial” vibe. Image: Garbagelapsap
Go for textures like velvet or a densely woven cotton for a more high-fashion street style look, and top off your athleisure-esque ensemble with some spotless white designer trainers. Image: Zara sports stripe trousers, $69.90
Hello hot pants! Is it getting warm in here? Seriously though, these oh-so-sensuous pants tend to be a little on the warm side when worn in our humid climate, so we advise only taking them out for a spin for social occasions that involve plenty of air-con. Leather and vinyl are textures that fashionistas love, and you’d be surprised by the many versatile looks you can achieve with a single pair. Image: Zara
We advocate sticking to just two colours: black and burgundy, as these are the easiest to match and are tame enough for a regular day on the street. While they might not be entirely appropriate for the strictest of offices (and it would be wise to double-check before trying one for casual Friday), they can easily be dressed up with a neutral coloured top and a lightweight blazer. Oh, and the must-have shoe to pair with leather pants? Red high-heeled, pumps, of course. Image: Zara vinyl palazzo trousers, $59.90
The street-style royalty of Seoul have pretty much decreed this print as the must-have of the year, and we can’t say we’re complaining! By far one of the easiest prints to match, you can opt for pieces in more muted hues for trouble-free styling, especially for the office. Image: Garbagelapsap
If you feel like upping your fashion game, buy separates in a matching plaid print for a cohesive outfit that you can wear for more formal occasions. We’ve noticed that the more popular shades tend to be the warmer ones like mustard and wine-red. Image: Zara high waisted checked trousers, $69.90
