14 ideas to steal from Singapore Idol 3 winner Sezairi Sezali's beachfront wedding
Sezairi Sezali, singer-songwriter, actor and Singapore Idol 3 winner, married events executive Syaza Qistina Tan in a private solemnisation ceremony before their beachfront receptions seven months later.

CHANCE MEETING We met while working at an arts festival at the end of 2008. Syaza was the relief instructor for one of the groups of kids I was overseeing. We began talking after she added me on Facebook, and started dating in April 2009.
SET UP FOR A SURPRISE I proposed in April in 2015, when we were in Batam filming the movie 1965. She was part of my management team and I thought it’d be cool to propose on a film set. With the help of movie director, Randy Ang, actress Deanna Yusoff (my on-screen mother), producer Daniel Yun, and the crew, we set up a fake scene that would lead to the proposal. By the time we were done, it was 4am, and everyone was exhausted. Syaza was the only one who didn’t know a thing so she was completely surprised.
TWO CELEBRATIONS, TWO CULTURES We had the solemnisation at Timbre Music Academy at The Arts House, which was witnessed by family and very close friends only in January this year. Our receptions were held at the SAF Yacht Club in August 2016. There was a traditional Malay celebration for about 700 guests during the day, and a sit-down dinner for 200 in the evening. We went for Oriental-themed decor to honour Syaza’s Chinese heritage.
SPEECH, SPEECH! Our favourite part had to be the speeches by our wedding party. After having to literally force them onto the stage before the wedding, we were touched by the effort they’d put into writing and giving their speeches. Also memorable was our march-in to dinner, and seeing the faces of all the people we love, who’d gathered to celebrate with us.

ALL ABOUT TRUST Aside from choosing the venues and videographer, we entrusted everything else to wedding planner Fatimah Mohsin and her incredible team. We only had an abstract idea about how we wanted the event to feel and she delivered way over our expectations. We’re so glad we took her complete package that included planning, styling, catering, and decor. Fatimah even found the LCD screens and wedding cake. It was really important that we fed our guests well and many still talk about how delicious the food was. When it was over, of course we were exhausted – but also incredibly grateful that so many people, including guests from Hawaii, Bandung and Kuala Lumpur, joined us.
