Women and girls have dominated the headlines for Singapore at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, delivering historic breakthroughs, record-defining performances and personal milestones.
From 19-year-old Marissa Hafezan ending a 32-year karate gold drought, to sprinter Shanti Pereira completing a rare 100m–200m double-double, and swimmer Amanda Lim signing off her SEA Games career with yet another gold, Singapore’s female athletes have defined this edition of the Games.

The next generation made its presence felt too. 12-year-old sailor Anya Zahedi clinched silver on her SEA Games debut, marking her first and the youngest appearance at a major multi-sport event.
“I feel really excited because it’s my first time representing Singapore at a major Games, and I want to learn a lot from this experience,” Anya said ahead of the competition.
For Marissa, the victory was hard-earned. After dislocating her shoulder twice in the months leading up to the Games, her gold carried added weight.
“It was just overwhelmingly positive, and I’m so honoured that they recognise me as someone who did something very important,” she told CNA. “I feel really honoured to have broken the drought. I feel joy and pride in contributing to my country’s history in karate.”
