Celebrating another year of inspiring women, the 32nd edition of Her World's Woman of the Year Awards was held at the opulent JW Marriott Hotel Singapore. This marquee event sees influential personalities –from fields spanning from art, business, medicine and entertainment – coming together to celebrate Singapore's outstanding crop of women who have made a significant impact to our society.
This year, we've expanded our honour roll of esteemed achievers with the additions of Professor Jackie Ying, founding executive director of the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN), founder of A*STAR’s NanoBio Lab and co-founder of Cellbae, and Caecilia Chu, co-founder and CEO of Youtrip, who have been recognised as Her World's Woman of the Year and Young Woman Achiever respectively.
On receiving her award, Prof Ying shares that it was a dream to be able to return to Singapore and work in the country, as she had grown up here as a child. “I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the building of Biopolis, and the biomedical research enterprise. This award is a great honour that I would like to share with my staff and students at Nanobio Lab, the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, as well as our spinoff companies. This year marks a major milestone for me as I came back to Singapore 20 years ago. I thank the Singapore government for its great support of our research efforts.”
Caecilia Chu, Her World's Young Woman Achiever 2023, shares that the award encourages her to continue to inspire more women to pursue their ambitions "without letting gender define them".
"As a female leader in the traditionally male-dominated tech industry, the award encourages me to continue inspiring more women to pursue their ambitions without letting gender define them," she says.
