Inside Estelle Fly’s world as a multi-hyphenate creative

Estelle Fly doesn’t do “just one thing”. Between releasing music, building a following online, and lending her voice to fictional characters, she moves through mediums the way most people move through moods - instinctively, and without much concern for staying in one lane.

We sat down with her to talk about authenticity in the age of algorithms, and how she flexes her range as a multi-hyphenate creative.

How do you balance authenticity with creating content that performs?
I think authenticity always comes first. Trends come and go, but people can usually tell when something feels genuine. Of course, I pay attention to what resonates with my audience, but I never want to create something just because I think it’ll perform well. If I can find a way to tell a story that’s true to me while still making it engaging, that’s usually when the content performs the best anyway.

How has creating content changed the way you see yourself?
It’s actually made me appreciate the little moments a lot more. Creating content has taught me to slow down and smell the roses, to appreciate the beauty in everyday life, whether it’s a conversation or a place I’ve stumbled upon. It’s also helped me become more comfortable sharing different sides of myself. I think people often see the polished version online, but I’ve learned that vulnerability and honesty are just as meaningful.

How do you convey emotion using only your voice?
I think it starts with understanding the intention behind every line. Before I think about how something should sound, I ask myself why the character is saying it in the first place. Once I understand the emotion, the voice naturally follows. Sometimes the smallest pause or change in tone can say more than raising your voice ever could.

What’s fascinating about bringing someone else’s words to life?
It’s a little like stepping into someone else’s shoes for a moment. Even though the words aren’t mine, I get to bring my own interpretation and emotions to them. I love that two people can read the exact same script completely differently. It’s a reminder that storytelling is just as much about empathy as it is about performance.

If someone only knew you through your songs, what would they understand about you?
I hope they’d see someone who’s constantly evolving. Every song I’ve released reflects a different chapter of my life, whether it’s learning to let go, finding confidence or exploring desire. More than anything, I hope they’d understand that I’m someone who’s always trying to find beauty in complicated emotions.

What side of yourself only comes alive through music?
I think music is where I’m the most emotionally honest. There are feelings that are difficult to explain in conversation, but somehow they make perfect sense in a song. It’s a space where I can be vulnerable, curious and imaginative all at once, and I don’t think any other part of my work allows me to express myself in quite the same way.
