International Women's Day 2012On March 8, the world celebrates the economic, political, and social achievements of women with International Women’s Day, now in its 101st year.

Hundreds of events will be held around the world to mark the occasion, including talks, discussions, exhibitions, and workshops. This year’s theme is “Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures.”

In some countries, such as China, Russia, Vietnam, and Bulgaria, it is a national holiday.

More than 1,000 events will be held around the world to mark the occasion, including large-scale marches, talks, discussions, exhibitions, workshops and a range of local events. More than 300 events are so far scheduled in the UK and more than 150 are planned in the US, with more being added daily. Find out what is happening near you at the global online hub www.internationalwomensday.com, or at the UN site: www.un.org/womenwatch/feature/iwd.

To celebrate, CARE USA, a humanitarian organization that fights global poverty, will host the CARE Conference & International Women’s Day Celebration in Washington DC.
