Sometimes there’s nothing quite like the presence of crystal clear waters and warm fine sand to make you feel like you don’t have a care in the world. Which is why it’s great that Singapore is so close to so many great beach destinations in Asia. A short(ish) flight can land you in some seriously breathtaking locales, and what better way to wind down and relax?

1. Yalong Bay, Jiyang Qu, Sanya Shi, Hainan Sheng, China

A long stretch of beach on Hainan known for silky white sand and premiere resorts with private beaches. If you haven’t experienced Sanya’s clear blue waters and warm ocean breeze yet, then you’re missing out on one of Asia’s most underrated vacation spots.

2. Tonsai Bay, Krabi, Thailand

This secluded beach is just a longtail boat ride away from Ao Nang, one of Krabi’s main towns. Don’t expect to find any five-star resorts here — Tonsai Bay is a welcome escape from the overly connected world. Spotty reception, warm people and laid-back vibes are all part of its charm. And did we mention that it’s a world renowned spot for rock climbing?

3. Broken Beach & Angel’s Billabong, Nusa Penida, Indonesia

Nature’s infinity pool and not-so-secret hidden beach are just a ferry ride away from Bali. It’s a pretty rugged trek to the beach, but the views of the untouched coastline are well worth it. Enjoy the scenery and take lots of IG-worthy pictures, but use caution when you swim as the sudden waves are known to be quite forceful.

4. Mirissa Beach, Mirissa, Sri Lanka

Surf’s up at this Sri Lankan beach getaway! Start the day with an epic sunrise, catch some waves, do some whale watching and end the day by sipping on a coconut while watching the sunset.

5. Woljeongri Beach 월정리 해수욕장, Jeju Island, Korea

The beaches around this part of Jeju are known for their clear emerald waters. To fully appreciate the island’s claim to fame, rent transparent kayaks so you can peer down into the crystalline ocean as you explore the coast.

6. White Beach, Boracay, Philippines

There’s no shortage of luxury on this five-kilometre stretch of land where sand and sky seemingly become one. Each resort along White Beach boasts its own interpretation of luxe — be it secluded oasis or all-inclusive activity hub. Be warned that Boracay is closed until late October.

7. Nishihama Beach (ニシ浜ビーチ), Okinawa, Japan

Japan isn’t usually the first country that comes to mind when planning a beach getaway, but it should be. With its silky white sand and endless clear waters, Okinawa’s Nishihama Beach is essentially heaven on earth. Foodies will love this destination too — the region’s restaurants serve only the freshest seafood.
