Keeping yourself active doesn’t only make you physically stronger but it also decompresses your mental knots. Furthermore, knowing how to improve one’s personal wellness is key to keeping a healthy mind. World Mental Health Day (Oct 10) was just last week. Mental health deterioration is a serious health issue that isn’t often talked about.

Most victims never truly understand the state of their mental health and other than seeing a counsellor or a psychologist, they end up fighting this battle alone.

That said, yoga has long been regarded as a great form of relaxation. Being able to connect body and psyche through a variety of poses is what you can look forward to at these four therapeutic yoga events.

Find your inner self with yoga. This year, Pure Yoga has invited Andrei Ram, one of the most sought after yogis, to conduct eight sessions of yoga classes. Spending 10 years serving yoga master Sri Dharma Mittra (creator of Master Yoga Chart of 908 Postures), Andrei is an experienced yoga practitioner and wishes to impart his wisdom to yoga enthusiasts in Singapore. The main purpose of the program is to offer transformative practices that will aid you in your self-realisation process.

Every session has a different exercise that targets the different aspects of self-realisation. The first session will introduce participants to the fundaments of the teacher’s approach – for Andrei, breath-work is a key element in his yoga method. Andrei is also conducting an inversion class that includes detailed explanation of the inversion techniques. Don’t fret if this is your first time in an inversion class as he will personally aid each participant with their posture.

Yoga lovers, it’s time for you to give back to society – how? In sun salutations (Surya Namaskar). This year, Lululemon is holding an outdoor yoga event as part of their Here to Be program. Here to Be seeks to use yoga as a tool to inspire positive change in people.

The Surya Namaskar is a series of 12 or more poses done consecutively. The poses and movements in a sun salutation lengthen and strengthen the different body parts. Other than improving your strength and flexibility, your mind also clarifies as you go through the poses.

Join Lululemon in doing 108 sun salutations and find your inner peace. Giving back to the community is your next step in attaining holistic wellness. The proceeds of the event will go to the Chiam See Tong Sports Fund.
