Hurray! It’s Friday – but not just any Friday. A bumper crop of fun-filled activities this side of town means it’s time to grab bae along and buckle up for a truly wicked weekend. We’re talking about what’s been billed as the first-ever Peranakan festival, two pop-up flea markets, affordable craft beers and lots of dancing (in a carpark, no less).

The Glory Hoes presents: Thelma and Louise screening at The Projector
Can you believe that it’s been 26 years since Thelma and Louise first aired? If you missed it then – or weren’t even born at the time – you may be pleased to know that hip hangout The Projector will be screening the film tonight. Catch the gruesome twosome at 9:30pm, sharp.
But if you’re game for some fun before your #throwback movie screening, come dressed for the ultimate Car Crash Couture where you get to pre-game, make new friends and line dance like mad.The party goes on because there’s a bar IN the theatre and an after-party at the carpark with DJ Bobby. If you can’t make it to the movie, then at least make it for the after-party.

Peranakan Festival
For the first time ever, Singapore is hosting a Peranakan Festival at Claymore Connect in Orchard, where it’ll run every weekend for an entire month. To all the Peranakans out there – which for the uninitiated refers to the straits Chinese community – this is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with your roots; for the rest, get ready to immerse yourself in a rich cultural experience.
Stuff to look forward to include dance performances, cooking workshops and food – lots of food. We think the weekend Peranakan Joget High Tea at The Peranakan restaurant will be a sell-out event, what with its scrumptious selection of Mee Siam, Kueh Pi Tee, Malacca Milk Tea and more. Come with an empty stomach and a hearty appetite.
Where: Claymore Connect, 442 Orchard Road, S(238879)
When: Every weekend from 27th May to 17th June

If you’re feeling a little peckish, there’s also good food and drinks by Satay Boy, Sarnies, The Travelling C.O.W (Chef on Wheels), SNO Flurry Desserts and Mikkleller Bar Singapore to line your stomach. We suggest sticking around until after 8pm, as there will be live music by Intriguant and NADA.

Multiply: A Majestic Playground is another pop-up flea worth sussing out, what with its interactive activities spread across 30 rooms at the one-time-only takeover of the historic New Majestic Hotel. This will sadly be the last event held at the hotel before it gives way to new developments from June 2017, so drop by for one last hurrah.

Brought to you by Keepers x Straits Clan, over 50 local designers, tattoo artists, craftsmen, chefs and mixologists will be there. Each floor of the Majestic Playground will revolve around a theme, with every single hotel room transformed into pop-up ateliers, bars, tattoo parlours, game rooms, tasting rooms and more.

Gorgeous set-up aside, this is a great opportunity to mingle with local creatives and to bounce ideas off each other. Do remember to bring cash along, as most of the retail items are cash-only – there WILL be limited-edition capsule collections dotted throughout the pop-up, so shop wisely.

Collective Minds presents: Cyril Hahn
After all that shopping and eating, it’s time to dance your night away with some sick electronic beats courtesy of Cyril Hahn. Now, if you’re a Majestic Casual fan, Cyril needs no introduction. For the uninitiated, Hahn hails from Switzerland and is best known for his catchy ‘bootleg’ versions of tunes by Sigur Ros, Jessie Ware and (most unforgettably) Destiny’s Child.
Catch Hahn in action for one night only at the Esplanade. RSVP now for to put yourself on the guestlist, or fork out $20 at the door. You do the math.

Located within Maxwell Food Centre (yes, that famed hawker centre!), 3rd Culture Brewing Co. houses an excellent line-up of craft beers on tap. This Sunday, you can look forward to taps from the Brewlander, Fierce Beer, Red Racer (arguably Canada’s finest) and more.
