Valentine’s Day is looming and whether you like it or not, love is in the air. It’s safe to say that it can be somewhat stressful in the days leading up to it; for couples, there’s the annual debate about how to celebrate this crazy little thing called love, or if to celebrate at all. For singles, the issue usually is about how to avoid super annoying couples and silly love songs wherever you go.

We here at Her World think that Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to binge watch all the romance-comedy movies that we’re crazy in love with. Therefore, if you can’t feel the love tonight (this will be the last pun, I swear), here are our favourite romance-comedy films that you need to watch! Be sure to read our full list, because you don’t want to miss a thing (sorry, I couldn’t resist).

Notting Hill

“Believe it or not, I’ve only watched Notting Hill last year (I know, more than a decade late!) but it’s been my favourite rom com since then. Julia Roberts has an iconic line in the movie and it’s stuck with me forever. It goes: ‘I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.’ So very touching and it never fails to make me teary-eyed.” – Hayden Ng, Content Producer

The Princess Bride

“WHY PRINCESS BRIDE?? It’s an absolute classic: The perfect combination of fairy tale storytelling, spoof-levels of absurdity, wit, danger, and of course, true love. Also not to be missed? Iconic quotable quotes. ‘This is true love. You think this happens every day?’ ” – Alyssa Dhaliwal, Beauty Writer

The Notebook

“A timeless classic, The Notebook may make your man cringe at the mere mention of it’s name…but within minutes of watching, he’ll be glued to the screen too. Showing us what real love is like, Noah and Allie’s journey isn’t your typical movie-romance = they fight, they break up and there’s a whole load of complications. Heck, there’s even another dude involved. But that’s what makes it so magical – because it’s REAL.  With an overall positive attitude that true love conquers all..this one is a must-have for cosy couple watching.” – Nicola Watson, Associate Editor

You’ve Got Mail

“I love the endless bickering! The writing is so witty, and who doesn’t adore Tom Hanks?”  – Mia Chenyze, Lifestyle Writer

50 first dates

“A rom-com list is not complete without a Drew Barrymore movie!” – Pei Ying, Lifestyle Writer

Four Weddings and a Funeral

“As far as funny, feel-good romantic comedies go, Four Weddings and a Funeral is one of the classics that will forever have a place in lists like these. Besides the bumbling charm of Hugh Grant, the film is cleverly written and very far from being super cheesy. My personal tear-jerker moment is the recitation of ‘Funeral blues’ by W.H. Auden during the funeral (prepare your tissue paper, people).”  – Alex James, Editorial Intern

Love Actually

“Love Actually is the quintessential rom-com that everyone should watch at least once! I know that it’s more of a Christmas movie, but you’ll get the same warm and fuzzy feelings that you would get during the holiday period. Oh, and if you haven’t seen the iconic confession of love scene with the huge cue cards, just remember to have a box of Kleenex on hand!” – Tessa, Fashion Writer

Crazy, Stupid, Love

“Crazy, Stupid, Love has such a great cast with actors like Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and so on. They all have great chemistry on screen. Many rom-coms have somewhat complicated, angst filled hardships that the main characters have to go through for love, but this movie is pretty happy and straightforward all the way through.” – Tan Min Yan, Lifestyle Editor

(500) Days of Summer

“It starts off with a disclaimer that this isn’t a love story and it really isn’t – but what it is instead is a bittersweet portrayal of what happens when the person you love isn’t The One. Plus, Zooey Deschanel cements her status as the ultimate manic Pixie Dream Girl.” – Clara How, Senior Features Writer

Love & Other Drugs

“You’d be hard pressed to find couples with on screen chemistry as good as Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal in Love & Other Drugs. Anne Hathaway had such witty and biting humour in the movie, plus the sex scenes were amazing.” – Kim Spykerman, Features Editor

About Time

“An adorably dorky British boy who time travels and does everything in his power to be perfect for the girl of his dreams – what’s not to love?” – Davelle Lee, Features Writer
