I’ll admit it’s not always easy to think of interesting dates to go on with your partner all the time. More importantly, dates have to be tailored to fit the type of couple you are. It might interest you to know that Singapore offers an abundance of cool stuff to do to that will suit any couple’s interests! Here are some of the dates you can go on in Singapore based on your couple type.

Movie dates for shy couples

Very often, a movie date is the default option when you can’t think of much else to do. However, just because it’s the “lazy” foolproof option doesn’t mean that it should be boring. A dimly lit theatre helps to create an intimate environment for a couple to relax in, and while there isn’t much opportunity for face-to-face interaction in the cinema, the film will definitely give you something to talk about afterwards.

Sporty dates for the sporty couples

If both parties in the relationship are active individuals, physical activity is a great bonding option. There are plenty of wonderful sports centres that offer a multitude of fun activities right here in Singapore. Be sure to sign up for stuff that you and your significant other can do together, like rock climbing, kayaking or yoga. Although these dates can get a bit pricey, having a sporty date maybe once a month is a great way to shake things up and keep in shape as well.

Adventurous date for bored couples

Sometimes it’s good to be pushed out of your comfort zone. If you feel like the regular dates you go on are getting a little stale, why not shake things up by doing things you wouldn’t ordinarily do? Do things that you haven’t done before as a couple. It can be as physically daunting as bungee jumping or horseback riding, to simple things like going to Johor Bahru for a day trip. Be adventurous and explore things that you never thought that you’d do. It will definitely be a breath of fresh air.

Dance dates for groovy couples

The good ol’ days of disco may be over, but kissing on the dance floor is beyond romantic. If you and your significant other love to dance, why not take up a super sensual salsa workshop or a fun disco rock class? Move together like how all those movie musical couples do and discover hidden talents that you never thought you possessed. Even if you have two left feet, it’ll definitely be a date to remember.

Bar dates for couples who #justwannahavefun

I would only recommend drinking on dates only when you know your partner fairly well. Bar dates are supremely enjoyable, especially if there’s a live band playing your favourite kind of music. That said, it’s important to pace yourself to make sure that neither of you crosses the line between having a really good buzz and getting all-out drunk. Some planning should go into drinking dates, especially regarding transport arrangements. All in all, bar dates are great fun, especially if you decide to double date with friends.

Other than bars, be sure to keep an eye out for any of the impressive music festivals that are becoming increasingly popular here in Singapore.

Home dates for busy couples

Home dates are the simplest but possibly one of the best kinds to have. A warm home-cooked dinner (or a quick FoodPanda order) paired with your favourite movies, popcorn and wine would be absolutely perfect. Dates that force couples to put aside their phones for a night and be in the moment with each other are super important given the busy working lives that many of us lead. If you’re looking to recreate those warm and fuzzy honeymoon feelings, it’s time for a home date.

Picnic dates for the adorably cheesy couples

Picnic dates take a fair amount of prep work but definitely pay off in the end. While it’s great enjoying a home-cooked dinner in front of your television, having it on the beach in front of a lovely sunset can be even better! While picnic dates can be somewhat cliche, it’s fun to be cheesy once in awhile. Get out there and enjoy the scenery! Trust me, Singapore is a lot more beautiful than you think. Don’t forget your mosquito repellent!

Museum dates for the intellectual couples

As boring as it might have been for you in school, history can be a lot more fun than you think. While there are the more traditional museums in Singapore like the Peranakan Museum and National Museum, there are even more attractions to entertain the more adventurous couples. From Harry Potter and NASA to ancient Egyptian mummies, there is a veritable treasure trove of fascinating exhibitions to uncover here. If you’re up for something a little more interactive, there are always the Duck and Hippo Tours. I would personally recommend The Original Singapore Walks, which explore historical trails in Singapore that are definitely off the beaten track. Would you be up for a historical walking trail through our red light district in Geylang and “go where many men have gone before?” For couples with curious leanings who like to be intellectually stimulated, museum dates are perfect for some bonding time.

Volunteer dates for the animal lovers

Try your hand at volunteering at an animal shelter. If you and your significant other are passionate animal lovers, why not rack up some good karma and volunteer at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)? That way, you’ll get to look after animals who need tender loving care and be active in ensuring a better life for our furry (or feathered or scaly) friends in Singapore. Who knows, both of you might decide to jointly adopt an animal in need after a volunteering session or two.
