For those looking at other alternatives past natural conception, you may have ventured into the land of in vitro fertilisation, aka IVF. But like many of us, the scientific jargon muddles the brain and you may have no idea where to even go to start this journey.

Virtus Fertility Centre Singapore (VFCS) may be able to help you.

Opened in January 2015, the centre has helped bring about the births of more than 300 babies. VFCS aims to provide a combination of medical and laboratory science, prioritising the safety of all its patients, who are looked after by a team of dedicated and experienced staff.

Below is a breakdown of the Virtus Fertility Centre experience:

This team takes pride in being part of the bigger Virtus Health family which has 46 fertility clinics across Australia, the UK, Ireland and Denmark, performing more than 18,000 fresh IVF cycles a year.

Every couple who embarks on the fertility journey starts with a meeting and consultation with their fertility specialist, scientists, nurses, fertility coaches and counsellors to understand and appreciate the treatment plans. These meetings are customised to the specific needs of patients, such as addressing the clinical, scientific, operational, nursing and emotional aspects.

Inside the state-of-the art fertility centre is an ISO-certified clean-room embryology  laboratory. Guests can enjoy comfortable recovery suites and consultation rooms, all housed within a one-stop facility. The centre offers procedures that include Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) combined with Intracytoplasmic Morphologically selected Sperm Injection (IMSI) and pre-implantation genetic diagnostic (PGD) biopsies to patients to optimise the chances of starting a family. A diagnostic andrology laboratory is also equipped to carry out advanced male infertility diagnostic tests such as sperm DNA fragmentation assay and sperm hyaluronan binding assay (HBA).

Safety

VFCS uses electronic Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging and witnessing, starting with patient registration and throughout the entire Assisted Reproductive Technology process. Every couple is assigned an electronic tag at the time of registration and matched in the electronic witnessing system.

The centre’s liquid nitrogen tanks (where the embryos, eggs and sperm are stored) are also equipped with sensors and electronically monitored to ensure that the temperature within the tanks is accurately maintained. This electronic monitoring system is capable of automatically alerting the laboratory team in the event of a breach so that timely action can be taken when necessary. At Virtus, there are also electronic medical records and a robust and comprehensive Quality Management and Risk Assessment system to continuously monitor, manage and improve all processes and protocols.

In 2017, Virtus had an average clinical pregnancy rate per embryo transfer of 53 per cent, a cumulative pregnancy rate per egg retrieval of 64 per cent, and a live birth rate of 47 per cent in 2016.
