Newsflash: Pubic hair is actually a necessity for us women. It’s okay to groom your bush to keep it neat but there’s no need to get a full-on Brazilian and look like an unnaturally bare Barbie. Here are five reasons why you shouldn’t remove your pubes completely:

It’s A Useful Barrier

One of the main purposes of pubic hair is to act as a physical barrier against friction, both between your body and your clothing, and during the rough and tumble of sex as well. Imagine your bare skin brushing against your underwear all day, every day – doesn’t sound very comfortable, does it? And because it decreases friction during sex, you’ll be protected from ‘rug burn’, which happens more frequently when you have no hair down there.

It Protects You From Bacteria

As much as we don’t want to think about it, our genital area is warm and moist most of the time – especially in a sweltering climate like Singapore’s. Unfortunately, this makes our crotch an ideal place for bacteria to grow – but our pubic hair keeps out unwanted bits from our erm, bits. It also filters out dust and dirt and protects cuts and wounds in the area from getting infected.

It’s Natural

Don’t be embarrassed about your hair down there as this a completely natural aspect of being a woman. It starts to grow as you go through puberty and is your body’s way of telling you that you’re maturing sexually and blossoming into a full-fledged woman. It keeps the nasties away and protects your vajayjay – why would you want to get rid of it?

You Won’t Be Itching

Let’s face it, hair removal from any part of our body often leads to painful bumps, rashes or even swelling. And, when it’s done on a sensitive area such as our pubes, it’s even more annoying. Leaving things as they are will also eliminate other issues such as the ostrich-skin effect of itchy ingrown hair – nobody likes how that looks!

You’ll Save Time & Money

If you tally up the amount of time you spend waxing or shaving – whether you do it yourself or at a salon – you’ll realise it adds up to quite a lot. Plus, the nature and shape of that area of our body makes it rather difficult to remove hair (all those curves and ridges!) so it can be frustrating to boot. And if you’re getting your grooming done at a salon, you’re certainly spending a fair amount of money that could be better used elsewhere – a sexy set of designer lingerie, anyone?
