If there’s one thing that unites Singaporeans as a nation, it is our love for food. And of all the amazing dishes we can choose from, crab is one of the most popular.

Hairy crab season has just arrived this month, and we’re in the mood for a little crab tasting. And by tasting we mean a full fledged feast! These restaurants will blow your mind with their portions and variety. The only way they could be more perfect is if some of them were offering promotions right now. Oh, wait; they are!

1. Shang Palace at Shangri-la Hotel

Shang Palace at Shangri-la Hotel is offering nine a la carte hairy crab selections and a six-course meal that includes steamed hairy crab as well as delicacies like kurobuta pork and braised claypot bird’s nest dumpling. The six-course meal also comes with a complimentary bottle of 8-year old Chinese yellow wine with every four set menus ordered (free happy juice #yay). The a la carte menu showcases traditional dishes like Steamed Hairy Crab with Ginger Tea and chef creations such as Hairy Crab Meat and Roe or Pan-Fried Hairy Crab Meat Stuffed Shell with Shrimp Paste and Pork.

Prices: $138 per pax for the six-course meal. Prices for the a la carte menu start from $24.

Address: 22 Orange Grove Road, Singapore 258350

2. The Dancing Crab

There is nothing like Cajun style seafood that’s been perfected by the good folk down in Louisiana, and of all the crab places listed here this has got to be the most fun! When your order arrives (your dish comes in a plastic bag by the way), it will be emptied out on the table without plates or utensils (but don’t worry, the table is covered in a clean plastic sheet). You’ll be given a plastic bib to wear and you simply eat your meal off the table. This is so fun that you’ll wonder why you don’t do this all the time! If you aren’t up for eating off the table that’s fine, there are other dishes, but their signatures come in bag form. Their selections are absolutely mouth-watering, and their Lousiana gumbo is worth a try.

3. Crab Corner

Located near Joo Koon MRT, this eatery is probably further away than you would usually go to eat, unless you live in the West, that is. Despite how tucked away it is, though, the prices and the spread looks absolutely amazing. Some of their signatures include black pepper crab, chilli crab and salted egg yolk crab which looks so indulgent I can already feel my arteries clogging up! There is also a luxury seafood combination platter which offers you enough seafood to turn you into a shellfish yourself!

Promotion: $48.80 per pax for the Premium a la carte buffet (minimum four pax) and $28.80 per pax for  the Executive a la carte buffet (minimum 3 pax)

Address: 1 Joo Koon Circle, #03-26, Fairprice Hub, Singapore 629117

4. The Ultimate Crab Feast, Plaza Brasserie, Park Royal on Beach Road

Photo: ParkRoyalHotels.com

Just the name of the buffet itself tells you everything you need to know about the selection available – it’s huge. All of our favourite classics are there; chilli crab, cereal crab (ohmygod!!) and salted egg crab to name a few. Recent additions that are slightly more creative include kimchi crab and miso crab. This buffet is only available for daily buffet dinners and Sunday buffet lunches. I think that it’s worth mentioning that there are 11 different varieties of crab specialties (kam heong crab, assam crab, Mediterranean crab, just to name a few more and make you salivate) for one of the cheapest prices on this list!

Promotion: Prices usually start at $68 per pax, but from Sunday to Wednesday it’s $99 for two! The offer is valid from October 1 to December 15, 2016.

Address: 7500A Beach Rd, Singapore 199591

5. Union of Crabs and Lobsters, Spice Brasserie, ParkRoyal on Kitchener Road

As the name suggests, crabs are being joined by another crustacean favourite; lobsters. Along with the usual popular crab dishes such as black pepper crab and slow-braised claypot pumpkin crab, we have a beautiful array of lobster dishes as well. Some of these dishes include truffle lobster with marinated jellyfish salad, flame-grilled lobster mentaiko and steamed ‘live’ lobster with chinese wine, just to name a few. This buffet is only available Thursday to Saturday until October 29, 2016, so if I were you I’d hurry down!
