keeping cool was never this easy... and delicious

Stick a cocktail umbrella in it, lean back and pretend you’re on vacation

Feelin’ hot, hot, hot? With the weather being so unpredictable lately (we’re not sure how many more of these scorching, melt-your-make up-off days we can take!), it’s understandable to be craving a refreshing bevvy or two to take the edge off. Luckily, there are summery, tropical cocktails a-plenty to choose from here in Singapore – all you need to know is where to look.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite tasty tipples that are either summer-themed or feature tropical ingredients, and are sure to refresh, relax and revitalise. We can practically feel the sea breeze already.

1. Hemingway Daiquiri at Summerlong

The name of this Eastern Mediterranean riverside restaurant, which boasts a beachside vibe despite being located in Robertson Quay, says it all. Its signature cocktail menu comprises not just one but several summer-appropriate drinks incorporating various kinds of fruits.

We highly recommend the understated Hemingway Daiquiri ($17++), which consists of rum, maraschino and grapefruit – talk about a delicious (and pretty) combination. For your Vit C fix, sip on Oracle’s Elixir ($16++) a gin-based cocktail with orange blossom, lychee and passionfruit.

Summerlong is at 60 Robertson Quay, #01-01, Singapore 238252. Visit www.summerlongsg.com or call 6235 1225 to reserve a table.

2. La vie en Marcel at Merci Marcel

This French social dining concept, which has outlets at Club Street and Tiong Bahru, will have you feeling the joie de vivre with its range of cocktails which have been designed in collaboration with fine spirit retailer La Maison du Whiskey. One of its signatures, the subtly tart La vie en Marcel ($19++), is a citrusy concoction of handcrafted Fair gin with zingy lime, egg white, refreshing pear nectar and liqueur.

In a word? Yummy.

Merci Marcel is at 56 Eng Hoon Street, #01-68, Singapore 160056, tel: 6224 0113, and 7-9 Club Street, 069403, tel: 6438 3913. Call or e-mail hello@mercimarcel.com to book.

3. Coconut Mojito at Aloha Poke

Specially created for the opening of its newest outlet at the ubiquitous Jewel complex at Changi Airport, Aloha Poke’s Coconut Mojito ($16++) aims to give drinkers’ “a refreshing taste of the islands”, according to the popular homegrown poke brand. Ingredients including rum, coconut water, milk and mint come together to pack an invigorating tropical punch that will make an unlikely but very much welcome accompaniment to your poke bowl.

The Jewel outlet, along with the one at Amoy Street, also serves up Hawaiian-inspired Tiki cocktails made with tropical liquors such as coconut, spiced and Jamaican rum, if you like having a few more options.

The latest Aloha Poke outlet is at 78 Airport Boulevard, Jewel Changi Airport, #05-200, Singapore 819666. For more information, visit www.alohapoke.com.sg

4. Ola Huli Pau at Ola Beach Club

Say aloha to your new, chilled-out self as you sip on a tropical Tiki cocktail at this Hawaiian-themed Sentosa beach bar, at which you can lounge the day away in the pool or on a sunbed, or partake in some adrenalin-pumping water-sports. We recommend their oh-so-Instagrammable signature drink, Ola Huli Pau – a delectable thirst-quencher comprising rum, pavan liqueur (a complex liqueur made from muscat grapes and orange blossom), watermelon juice and topped with a sprig of mint.

Don’t blame us if you feel like doing the hula after a couple of these!

Ola Beach Club is at 46 Siloso Beach Walk Sentosa, Singapore 099005. Visit www.olabeachclub.com or call 6250 6978 to book
