The picnic so secretive that you'll find out its location on the day itself

Le Diner en Blanc's 2018 edition is back, bigger (after all, its the event's 30th year) and definitely more creative

The novelty of a “hey, it’s a totally secret” party isn’t lost on us because after all, anybody who has partied through the ‘90s and early noughties will recall receiving a text message hinting of an underground location. Did it thrill us? Yup. Did it make us feel a little cooler than our peers? You bet. Le Diner en Blanc’s 2018 edition (and that’s 30 years since it first started in Paris) wants to bring that feeling back. Except this time round, you’ll be seated with food and alcohol that doesn’t involve you slamming shot glasses on a bar counter and if you’re worried about transportation, the good folks at Le Diner en Blanc will be sending you back to the original pick up location.

Held on 12th May, its location is kept undisclosed until the last minute – you’ll meet at an assigned location and be escorted to the final one in a chartered coach (and that’s you being the grown up you are). And if you’ve never been to a Le Diner en Blanc party before, this isn’t the picnic you throw at the Botanic Gardens with friends. Except an elegant soiree with gourment picnic food, fine china, table décor and flowers. Straw bags are option but if you’re looking to jazz your table up, we recommend this local label.

Culinary fare wise, we recommend a picnic basket (click here for our go-to trusted place for homeware) filled with food that is coloured white. If you’re stumped on what to create, we recommend tofu dishes (low in calories, high in protein and like all great ingredients, more than one way to serve it) and sorry boozers, alcohol isn’t allowed. A table (recommended size is 70cm x 70cm), two white chairs, white tablecloth and a biodegradable (cause you know, environmentally friendly like these tips we have here) should be part of your packing list too.

Oh and if the name of the event doesn’t make sense, you’re encouraged to wear white. Here are 10 great dress options.

PS: Lazy to bring your own food? There’ll be a menu with a five course meal starting at $138 for 2 pax or if you want to keep the bubbly flowing, $88 for Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut Champagne.
