The wait is almost over. Popular Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng (tea house) Tsui Wah is opening its first South-east Asian outlet at Clarke Quay on June 15 at 1pm.

The contemporary restaurant, which seats more than 140 diners, will offer signature items such as milk tea; crispy bun with condensed milk; and its selection of curry items. The menu will progressively expand.

Over the past few months, chefs from Tsui Wah in Hong Kong have been in Singapore to train the local staff and some of them will also be stationed here to ensure that standards of quality and freshness are met.

The Tsui Wah outlet in Singapore is a franchise by Vista F&B Services, a joint venture between Tsui Wah Holdings and Jumbo Group.

The chain has more than 60 outlets in Hong Kong, Macau and China. The brand was founded in 1967 in the Hong Kong neighbourhood of Mong Kok.

Brands under the Jumbo Group include Jumbo Seafood restaurants, Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh and Chui Huay Lim Teochew Cuisine.

Housewife Linda Tan, 54, is eagerly awaiting the opening of Tsui Wah.

"My family and I make it a point to visit it for at least one meal when we are in Hong Kong. I must order the milk tea and crispy bun with condensed milk, along with other noodle dishes," she says. "I hope the flavours of the dishes and ambience of the outlet remain authentically Hong Kong."

Tsui Wah opens at 01-03 Clarke Quay, 3A River Valley Road, on June 15 from 1 to 11pm. It opens from 11am to 11pm daily from June 16.
