Creamy and rich in flavour, with a beautiful golden top and buttery, crunchy crust, it’s not hard to understand why cheesecakes are a universal favourite. It’s the best treat to abandon yourself to, on days you feel blue, feel the need to snack on something sweet, or to celebrate milestones and special occasions, and of course, no one will fault you if you bring a whole, freshly baked one to a home party.

As the US celebrates National Cheesecake Day on July 30 (though we believe that it should be celebrated all year round), we’ve rounded up the best places in Singapore with the most decadent cheese cakes that are well worth the indulgence.

Whether you like your cheesecakes classic, creamy, traditional, light or fluffy, the dessert is simply impossible to resist in all its glorious forms. Whip out your dessert fork and treat yourself. You can run it off later.

If you think that tofu and cheesecake sound weird together, then you’ve got to try Cake Spade’s Strawberry Tofu Cheesecake ($6.50), which has fresh strawberries encased in jelly atop a creamy base that’s supported by a perfectly baked digestive biscuit crust at the bottom.

While it’s not exactly made up of tofu, Cake Spade uses a healthier version of cream cheese that makes it as soft and silky as real tofu, so if you prefer lighter cheesecakes, this will be right up your alley. It also has a Peach Tofu Cheesecake that’s just as good, if you’re not a big fan of strawberries, as well as an array of cream cheesecakes and baked cheesecakes of various flavours. Worth a check.

Cake Spade is at 83 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088504, tel: 6444 3868.

4. D9 Cakery

Situated at the Hilton Hotel, D9 Cakery is the place to go for patisseries and artisanal sweets that are both exceptional in taste and attractiveness. Cakes here are comforting yet exquisitely and beautifully designed. Boasting an ultimate balance of fluffy and rich, with the smoothest of textures, its American Cheesecake ($10 for a slice) is unwaveringly still the best classic cheesecake to indulge in. It also has two other takes on the classic, one topped with blueberry and the other with walnut.

D9 Cakery is at 581 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238883, tel: 6737 2233.

5. LeTao

Japanese cheesecake chain LeTao is famous for its Double Fromage Cheesecake ($28) that’s made of imported Italian mascarpone cheese. The cakes are made in Hokkaido, frozen with a special technology, then air-flown over to Singapore. The cake’s unique selling point lies in its layers – a top layer of unbaked cheesecake that’s light and milky and a bottom layer of baked rich cheesecake. The concoction is then topped off with a layer of powdery parmesan cheese. The result? A light and fluffy confection that melts like snow in the mouth. Want something with more oomph? It’s also available in other flavours such as double chocolate and berry.

LeTao is at #B1-K7 ION Orchard, 2 Orchard Turn, Singapore 238801, tel: 8799 3551.
