Mexican
Super Loco
60 Robertson Quay, tel: 6235-8900,
www.super-loco.com
Super Loco serves up unpretentious Mexican street fare in an atmosphere of irrepressible, party-like cheer. Mexican’s gaining traction in Singapore, but you’ll still be hard-pressed to find Mexican brunch. One of the standouts on the newly revamped menu (by Aussie chef Jason Jones) is Pulled Pork Torta ($15), a burger of juicy slow-cooked pulled pork, coleslaw, beans, apple and habanero mayo, all between perfectly toasted brioche buns. Others include Esquites ($8), a Mexican street classic of grilled corn kernels with cotija cheese, lime, mayo and chilli; and Super Huevos Rancheros ($20), an all- Mexican fiesta of cheese quesadilla, baked black beans, eggs, tomato salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Don’t miss the Super Smoothies (from $8), made with almond milk, coconut water, flaxseed and agave nectar with a choice of banana, mango and – for an indulgent treat – salted caramel. They’re light enough so you won’t feel bloated. For something healthier, take the guilt-free Acai Super Bowl ($15) of fresh fruit, quinoa, granola and buckwheat, or Loco Granola ($14), which mixes granola with agave, pear and almond yogurt.
Available on weekends, from 10am-3.30pm.
French
Cocotte
2 Dickson Road, tel: 6298-
1188, www.restaurantcocotte.com
The free-flow eight-course menu changes every week and makes you want to sample a bit of everything. Popular favourites that often return to the menu are the Roasted Pork Collar and Roasted Sea Bass with Quinoa. The staff are friendly and very obliging when you ask for seconds – all served a la minute. Show some restraint with the main courses, though – the dessert trolley at the end is not to be missed, and watching a creme brulee getting torched and caramelised is always a treat. If you want tipples with your nibbles, go for the free-flow prosecco ($99).
Available on weekends, from noon to 3pm. From $59 a person.
Modern European
Open Door Policy
19 Yong Siak Street,
tel: 6221-9307,
www.odpsingapore.com
Like its regular menu, Open Door Policy’s brunch follows the guiding principle of offering modern-European fare spruced up with an Asian twist. The scrambled eggs ($22) are perfumed with truffle oil and paste, and mixed with baby spinach and oyster, shimeji, portobello and button mushrooms. Fluffy buttermilk pancakes ($22 for three) are served with a homemade citrusy pastry creme, and topped with poached strawberries, freeze-dried raspberries and a luscious in-house vanilla ice cream. Even the Bloody Mary gets a reinvention – or three – here: Have it with gin (Red Snapper, $17), tequila (Bloody Maria, $18), or a whisky finish and a slice of bacon (Kentucky Mary, $18).
Available on weekends and public holidays, from 11am-3pm.
