It’s hard work being a movie buff in Singapore, with a dizzying variety of blockbusters and indie films released every week. Even if you watched one movie a day, you wouldn’t be able to see them all. And with ticket prices going up to S$13 on weekends for 2D movies, keeping up to date with the latest films is quite a financial commitment too.
We all deserve to indulge in our favourite hobbies without busting our budgets. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up the best credit cards for movies so you can see your favourite flicks for less.
In addition to discounts at Golden Village, Cathay Cineplexes, and Shaw Cinemas, these credit cards also reward you with air miles, points, or cash rebates. How’s that for a picture-perfect trip to the cinema?
1. HSBC Revolution Card: S$85 for 10 Movies with the All-Day Movie Card
Known as one of the best credit cards for online shopping, the HSBC Revolution Card can also make a fun night in town happen.
With 5X Rewards for local dining, and 5X Rewards on entertainment, every dollar you spend is a dollar earned towards the next fun weekend. The card also comes with a variety of 1-for-1 dining deals, online discounts, and an exciting rewards catalogue where you can choose what to get with your accumulated points.
The Movie Ticket Promotion
Where movies are concerned, the HSBC Revolution Card gives you access to the HSBC Movie Card, a prepaid movie card that gives you discounts at Golden Village cinemas. You can purchase the HSBC Movie Card with your Revolution Card, or any other HSBC credit or debit card.
The HSBC Movie Card comes in two flavours:
The Weekdays Movie Card (S$70) – 10 movie credits, redeemable from Mondays to Thursdays except public holidays and the eve of public holidays. Get this if you don’t like dealing with the weekend crowd, and prefer watching movies on weekday nights.
The All Days Movie Card (S$85) – 10 movie credits redeemable on all days, except Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, 1st and 2nd day of Lunar New Year. Get this if you want the flexibility to watch movies at any day of the week.

The use of this card comes with a few terms and conditions, so do be aware of them before deciding to get one.
2. ANZ Optimum World MasterCard: Cathay Cineplexes Discounts with MasterCard
Most cashback credit cards give you rebates for just one or two categories all year round. In this respect, the ANZ Optimum World MasterCard is quite unique.
Before the start of each quarter, you get to choose which category you’d like to earn 5% cashback from: Dining & Entertainment, Travel, Shopping, and Groceries. And unlike other cashback cards, the ANZ Optimum World MasterCard has no minimum spending requirement and no limits to the rebates you can earn.
For cinephiles, the best way to use this card is to pick Dining & Entertainment just before Oscars season. This lets you earn 5% rebates while you watch and pass your own judgment about the nominated films!
The Movie Ticket Promotion
As this credit card is a MasterCard, we thought it to be one of the best to use for Cathay Cineplexes’s promotion. When you buy movie your tickets with any MasterCard credit or debit card, weekday movies cost only S$8 (normally S$9) and weekend movies cost S$10.50 (normally S$13).
There are a couple of terms and conditions to note, which you can view in full here. Generally, the discount can only be claimed at box office counters.
