Visual creatives from around the world (read: you) are now invited to submit entries from today until 31 July 2019 to compete to become hotshot finalists and have your work judged by a panel of world-class photographers, curators, and visual artists.

[There’s only one caveat: you have to shoot your entry images on a Huawei phone. But hey, the new P30 range features a 50x zoom, so let’s see if you can find new creative ways to have your moonshot.]

The awards provide users with a gallery to showcase your best work to a global audience.

Now in their third year, to date the Awards have seen over 550,000 entries from over 130 countries – helping to establish it as one of the world’s most popular smartphone photography contests.

“Through developments in digital photography, HUAWEI has been striving to bring a new photographic experience to our global users through advanced image taking and by redefining the meaning of visual expression making,” said Li Changzhu, Vice President of Handsets Product Line of Huawei Consumer Business Group.

“The Huawei Next-Image Awards are helping us to reach this goal, and the number of submissions have doubled since their inception in 2017 with over half a million images having been provided.”

The 2019 Huawei Next-Image Awards are split into six categories: ‘#Emotion Tag’, ‘Hello, Life!’, ‘Faces’, ‘Going the Distance’, ‘Life Now’ and ‘Storyboard’. Three of the categories from 2018 remain, and three new ones were created to add an extra dimension to the awards this year.

They are ‘#Emotion Tag’ which is about expressing instant emotions by means of smartphone photography; ‘Going the Distance’ which is about discovering new places and new experiences by using new features found in a phone camera, especially zoom features; and ‘Life Now’ which is about filming a story in less than 30 seconds.
