If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Singapore without travelling too far, Langkawi offers the ideal weekend retreat. With its beautiful beaches, exciting watersports and of course delicious food, this Malaysian paradise is a sure bet. Whether you’re planning a girls trip or a family vacation, here’s your guide to making the most of a weekend in Langkawi:

Visit the beaches

Langkawi is renowned for its stunning beaches, and there are plenty of beach resorts with private shores where you can unwind over the weekend. Wake up to the gentle sound of waves and start your day right with a delightful breakfast buffet by the beach while you enjoy the breeze.

If you’re not staying at a resort, don’t fret; there are plenty of public beaches that are equally beautiful and free to access. Pantai Cenang Beach is the most popular, offering a lively atmosphere with plenty to do. In the evenings, stick around to catch a mesmerising fire show or watch the sunset on the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. A truly captivating ambience.

Enjoy the watersport activities

For those who crave adventure, Langkawi’s water sports scene is not to be missed. Many beach resorts offer their own range of activities, but you’ll also find plenty of watersport booths along the public beaches where you can compare prices and pick your favourite.

Our personal favourite is the jetski – perfect for a solo ride across the waves. For a group activity, you can try the banana boat, book a quick ride close to shore, or go all out with a full tour that takes you around the various islands.

Closer to the islands, you will also have the option of engaging in activities such as snorkeling or scuba diving. Note: it does get hot out so remember to wear your sunscreen!

Hidden Langkawi

Head over to Hidden Langkawi at Pantai Tengah; a western beach restobar. Open from 12pm to 12am, it’s the perfect spot to relax with a cocktail in hand. With palm trees and fairy lights decorating the area, enjoy the scenic atmosphere as you indulge in their array of food and drinks.

If you would like to catch their live fire show on the beach, make sure to visit between Thursday and Tuesday. It happens at 9pm and it’s a dazzling display you wouldn’t want to miss.

Massage and nails

No getaway is complete without some pampering. Langkawi offers massages and mani pedis at prices that won’t break the bank. While most hotels offer spa services, you can find even better deals in tourist areas like Kuah Town or Pantai Cenang. Whether you’re in the mood for a traditional Malay massage or want to jazz up your nails with some custom designs, you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated. It’s the kind of self-care that your future self will thank you for (especially when you’re back at your desk on Monday).

Telaga Tujuh Waterfall

This waterfall, situated near to Telaga Harbour is considered by many to be the most beautiful waterfall on Langkawi & has one of the legends of Langkawi associated with it. It is said that the wells, or pools at the very top of the falls are where Fairies come to bathe.

Take a short 30-minute hike to the Telaga Tujuh Waterfall (Seven Wells Waterfall) and cool down in the stream by it. If you’re feeling adventurous, climb up the rocks of the waterfall, but be careful as it can get slippery.

Reward yourself with a visit to the Coffee Nuts Café at the base of the hills. Their 100% Arabica blend, brewed with their secret ingredient (local spring water) is the perfect way to end your exploration. If coffee is your love language, this spot is a must-visit.

Sky Bridge

Just a short distance from the waterfall is the iconic Langkawi Sky Bridge. This curved pedestrian bridge, suspended 660 metres above sea level, offers breathtaking views of the rainforest, Andaman Sea, and the surrounding islands. Take the Langkawi Cable Car to the top of Gunung Mat Cincang to reach the bridge. The view is magnificent and on clear days, you can see as far as Thailand’s Tarutao Island. And to top it off, there are glass panels embedded on the bridge’s floor, adding more thrill to the experience!

Pizza Hills

End your day with a delicious meal at Pizza Hills, a cosy restaurant known for its brick oven pizzas. The warm ambiance, combined with chefs who go the extra mile to customise your pizza to your taste, makes for a memorable dining experience. Just a heads up, this place is small and always packed, so make a reservation if you want to dine in. They take bookings via WhatsApp or phone, so don’t be shy about securing your spot.

For a bonus experience, head up the slope beside the restaurant to catch the sunset before or after your meal.
