Where to travel when Singapore gets too hot—cool destinations under 20°C
Need a break from the heat? These dreamy destinations serve up cool temperatures and even cooler adventures

Let’s be honest—Singapore’s weather lately feels like we’re walking through a sauna. Stepping out at lunchtime is basically a full-body workout, and most of us are resorting to mini handheld fans (read: the coveted Jisulife fan) just to survive the swelter.
With the June holidays now in full swing, many Singaporeans who are planning to travel are now dreaming about trading all that sticky humidity for cool, crisp air and actual sweater weather.
While the Northern Hemisphere is heating up for summer during this period, countries in the South are in the middle of winter—which makes for the perfect opportunity for all those scenic hikes and snowy adventures you’ve been waiting for.
To make planning your next vacation a little more hassle-free, Skyscanner recently shared a list of countries worth visiting—each with average temperatures below 20°C. To find out more about these cool (literally) destinations, keep scrolling.
1. Perth, Australia
Skyscanner named it one of this summer’s most popular destinations—and we can see why. With July temps between 10–18°C, Perth’s ideal for scenic hikes through national parks without breaking a sweat. You can also hit the road and explore Western Australia at your own pace, with winter festivals and natural wonders along the way.

2. Hobart, Australia
Tasmania in winter? Yes, please. In July, the temperature in Hobart hovers around 12°C. You’ll get to enjoy the island’s unique wildlife, explore local markets, and if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the Southern Lights—a bucket-list experience for any traveller.
(Flights from $593 in July)*
3. Melbourne, Australia
Another great pick for a cool, culture-filled escape. At around 14°C, Melbourne’s weather is perfect for wandering its laneways, café-hopping, and soaking in its artsy vibe. And if you want a change of scenery, road trips to Phillip Island or Yarra Valley are an easy (and scenic) option.
(Flights from $407 in July)*
4. Wellington, New Zealand
Chilly, charming, and underrated. With winter temps between 7–12°C and flight prices down by 20%, Wellington is a gem for travellers who love coastal views, nature walks and a solid flat white. Bonus: no sticky heat while you hike.
(Flights from $1,003 in July)*
5. Christchurch, New Zealand
Snow-capped peaks and peaceful gardens? Say no more. At an average of 10°C in July, Christchurch offers everything from alpine ski resorts to hot-air balloon rides and mulled wine moments post-hike.

6. Buenos Aires, Argentina
A “coolcation” with serious flair. Buenos Aires chills between 8–15°C during July, but the city’s energy is anything but cold. Explore vibrant street art, striking European-style architecture, and don’t leave without catching a sultry tango performance—it’s the birthplace of tango, after all.
(Flights from $1,881 in July)*
7. Santiago, Chile
Think: 9°C weather, snow-capped Andes in the background, and wine on the table. July is winter in Santiago, and it’s the perfect time to explore the city or take a quick day trip to ski at Valle Nevado, one of the largest resorts in the region.
