What’s on your calendar for the month? August has quite a few not-to-be-missed events that we can guarantee will keep you run off your feet. Ready your camera — there’s concerts, galas and more that you need to head to.
This outdoor event will showcase movies like The Notebook (2004), to more recent releases like A Quiet Place (2018). Presented by wine maker Casillero del Diablo, one of the best-known Chilean wine brands in the world, the event is set to feature pre-film activities like DJ and instrumentalist sets.
Get there early, or lose out on a good spot to park yourself once the film begins. Tickets are $29.80, with a free inflatable cushion (available on a first come, first served basis) on offer.

Legendary American folk singer Bob Dylan is set to perform at The Star Theatre. The Tambourine Man has released 38 studio albums in his illustrious 56-year career, and picked up the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016.
The 77-year-old, known for songs like Blowin’ In The Wind (1963), The Times They Are A-Changin’ (1964) and Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door (1973) last performed here in 2011 at the Timbre Rock & Roots music festival.
Tickets to his Star Theatre gig are $128 and up.

Hailed as a pop rebel, Halsey is best known for her dark and gritty electro-infused tunes, and is bringing her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom World Tour to Singapore.
The Grammy Award-nominated singer was first here for the F1 Grand Prix in 2016, and her Star Theatre gig marks the first time the New Jersey native is performing a full show on these shores. Expect hear hit songs like Ghost, Colors and Gasoline.

We’re flying the flag high because we’re celebrating 53 years of independence this year. The theme this year is “We Are Singapore”, reminding us that our identity is harmoniously built on different cultures coming together as one.
Don’t have tickets to the official parade? You know you can catch views of the Red Lions, the aerial fly-bys and the fireworks from great vantage points around town, such as the Singapore Flyer and the Esplanade, as well as various hotel bars.

Not sure what else to do on National Day? Head to the Gardens for a Pop Up Cinema event. Directed by Tan Pin Pin, In Time to Come (2017) is a movie set in Singapore like no other.
The documentary was shot over a period of four years, and revolves around the idea of a time capsule. Showcasing the scenes of everyday Singapore, the movie is contemplative, finding the extraordinary in the mundane.

This year marks the second time the RWS Street Eats event will whet your taste buds. Expect a staggering array of South East Asian delicacies and celebrity chefs at this edition of the festival.
Chow down on pho bo and Vietnamese summer rolls from Top Chef Vietnam 2014 finalist Steven Long, and watch out for chefs Zainal Abidin and Mohd Fairus from Malaysia, who’ll present their flying roti canai in an unmissable performance.

Premanadi — The River of Love is a dance drama that draws inspiration from the many facets of the river Ganga. Follow the story of the the Anurag family as they travel towards the mythic Varanasi.
Live orchestral music and classical and semi-classical Indian dance, performed against stunning backdrops, make this a tale to remember.

A bout of chicken pox kept this Grammy-award winning electronic pop trio from performing here in January, but they’re making good on their promise to return this month, with a rescheduled show happening on August 15.
This is their second outing in Singapore, and the British band — with No. 1 hits like Rather Be, Rockabye and Symphony — will undoubtedly rock the house at their Star Theatre show.

Although tickets to his gigs here are sold out, you should know that Singapore singer JJ Lin will be in town. The Mandopop star has making waves in China in support of his new Message In A Bottle album. And this month, Lin, now based in Taiwan, returns to home soil for his Sanctuary World Tour show.
Those lucky enough to have gotten tickets will hear him sing hits like If Only and Twilight. The Mandopop singer actually added extra dates to his shows here, after tickets sold out within just an hour of release. Those, too, sold quickly and are hot resale items, although organizers warn that tickets not bought directly from authorized outlets may not be valid.

Held over two weekends, the Singapore Night Festival is always a transformative one. Expect musical performances, film screenings and huge light installations around the Armenian Street area.

Runners, this one’s for you. Join this year’s Shape Run and race in the 5km and 10km competitive race categories. Or, sign up with two of your besties for the Squad Relay (3 runners x 5km).
It might be a fun event for the whole family, too, since there’s the 1.8km Family Fun Run (at least one member of the family must be 13 years of age or below by the race date).

This event by Spa Esprit features free workshops, such as Sonic Flow yoga with musician, DJ and yoga teacher Amanda Ling, who’ll lead you through a series of dynamic and yin stretches.
The Shima Healing Institute will host a Tibetan singing bowl workshop, where you can learn how to clear the energy of your living space through the use of sound. The Institute will also hold a paid workshop ($60), where you’ll get hands-on experience in creating your own edible garden, whether you’re sowing from seeds, or propagating plants from stem cuttings.

We love a pop-up cinema outing and this month, Blu Jaz Café will be showing The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), which won a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
The film, directed by Wes Anderson and starring Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes, is a classic that shouldn’t be missed in this fun Bali Lane setting.

Parafamily, listen up. The Grammy Award-winning pop-punk chart-toppers are still as lit as ever, despite multiple line-up changes.
Returning to the scene last year after a four-year hiatus with After Laughter, a 1980s emo-pop excursion, this band fronted by Hayley Williams will hit the stage to play tunes like Ain’t It Fun and Grudges.

This is the movie opening you need to catch. Based on the book Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan, this Hollywood-produced movie is set in Singapore, and features a strong Asian cast. Henry Golding, Constance Wu and Michelle Yeoh may play the leads, but you’ll know to look out for Singapore stars like Pierre Png (those abs!), Fiona Xie (hilarious as Kitty Pong!), Tan Kheng Hua, Selena Tan, Janice Koh, Amy Cheng and more.
We can tell you that the extravagant Jon M. Chu movie is gorgeously shot, with fashion you’ll be drooling over, all set in locations you’ll recognize. Want to stake out the gala premiere? It’s happening on August 21 at the Capitol Theatre, and we know it’s set to be a glitzy affair where you’ll be able to spot the likes of Png, Xie, and perhaps even director Chu on the red carpet.
Head there by 6.30pm to catch a glimpse of the stars.
