Spinning at Zouk this week is Boys Noize, the alias of Alex Ridha, a Berlin-based DJ, producer and remixer who’s now one of the Electro-sphere’s most valued artistes. Boys Noize puts his unique spin on the works of Depeche Mode, N.E.R.D., Snoop Dogg and The Chemical Brothers; he’s even spent the better part of the last few years producing for Spank Rock, Santigold and Scissor Sisters. You may even hear tunes from his new studio album, Out of the Black, last October, collaborating with Snoop Dogg and Suriusmo for his latest effort.

The SSO and Principal Guest Conductor Okko Kamu move to the School of the Arts for two evenings of concert favourites, featuring Dvořák’s timeless “Serenade for Strings in E major” and Mozart’s effervescent Haffner Symphony. Pianist Thomas Hecht takes on Falla’s Nights in the “Gardens of Spain”, a work initially conceived as a series of nocturnes that incorporates elements of folk music from the composer’s native Andalusia.

Inspired by the classic play from China’s Shakespeare, Cao Yu, theatre director Tang Shu-wing (director of Huayi 2011’s Titus Andronicus 2.0) teams up with dancer-choreographer Xing Liang in this captivating hybrid of dance and physical theatre. Thunderstorm blends Chinese classical, folk and modern dance based on Cao Yu’s compelling story and famous characters. Complete with evocative period costumes and staged with a contemporary aesthetic, this production features a cast of six dancers from China and Hong Kong, and an award-winning Hong Kong design team.
