Here are the top 10 cancer-causing foods people should avoid, suggested by the Cancer Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. According to the latest study of the World Health Organisation, processed meat is carcinogenic, and red meat might be as well.

1. Sunflower seeds.

Fast-growing sunflower plants can easily absorb and accumulate heavy metals if grown in metal-laden soils. Heavy metal is a cause of lung cancer.

2. Chewing gum.

Although the gum base is not toxic, some chewing gum ingredients, such as aspartame and titanium dioxide, may cause cancer.

3. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG).

Glutamate, the major ingredient of the common flavor enhancer, is critical to human health.

4. Pork liver.

Extremely high in cholesterol, pork liver has been associated with risk of liver cancer and other health ailments.

5. Glass noodles and rice noodles.

Alum, the essential food additive used in these foods, is linked with breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

6. Pickled vegetables.

Pickled vegetables are generally viewed to increase the risk of gastric cancer.

7. Bottled juice.

Most bottled juices are extremely high in sugar, which is often underestimated by people.

8. Preserved eggs.

A major safety concern with preserved eggs is the use of lead, which can be toxic to humans, during processing.

9. Fermented tofu.

The fermentation process is very vulnerable to microbial contamination.

10. Youtiao (deep-fried bread sticks).

Deep-fried foods, such as youtiao, are associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer.
