Rule #1 You have to wear a white dress

Take your cue from celebs like Elizabeth Taylor (in a yellow chiffon outfit), Gwen Stefani (who made ombre cool before anyone else), and Anne Hathway, who looked absolutely captivating in her pink Valentino tulle gown. Here, Leona Lewis's gorgeous Tony Ward Couture number is stunning for the aisle.

Rule #2 Your bridesmaids should wear the same dress

Choose your colour palette (this bride opted for a cool white theme), then let your girls have fun picking out dresses or even jumpsuits they will wear again after the wedding. Separates are another hot trend for bridesmaids too.

Rule #3 You should dress for your body type

While there are certain gown styles that flatter your body shape more, a few tweaks to the design can do wonders. If you're a petite bride, opt for a ballgown with less ruffles or details on the skirt so it doesn't overwhelm you. Have a straight torso but want to rock a mermaid? Artfully draped pleats or gathers can shave inches off your waist. Discuss with your wedding dress designer.

Rule #4  You have to wear a veil

Not into veils? Try an avant garde headpiece that'll have all eyes on you instead.

Rule #5 Bare either your cleavage or your legs

We say do both! Keep the look romantic with beautiful detailing and ethereal tulle layers.

Rule #6 Sparkle and glamour is only for the evening

While you might not want to go OTT, a sparkly headpiece, subtly shimmery eyeshadow and soft smokey eyes all look fab for the day.

Rule #7 Sparkly jewellery and diamonds are a must

Don't limit yourself to jewellery when it comes to accessories. Think edgy metal cuffs, or beaded necklaces or even rock-and-roll accessories to show off your personal style.

#Rule 8 You have to wear "bridal" shoes (which really mean white, crystal-embellished or lace heels)
