Keep your wedding budget in check! 5 quick tips

1. Have a budget checklist…for everything!

If you’re having a simple celebration, one checklist to accommodate all your expenses would be good enough.

If your wedding has many different aspects and cost items, have a separate checklist for every category. i.e Checklist for bridal wardrobe, décor, food and even favors.

These checklists will help you track your budget and expenditure but they will only be effective if you use them effectively and be disciplined with your spending.

Note: Always start your planning with your budget estimated even before you book the big ticket items like wedding venues and bridal packages.

2. Cut the extras

Many wedding packages come with extra and hidden costs.

It is best to go through with your vendor every item in the package and determine whether you need it.

3. Stay on time

Most vendors and venues will charge overtime rates for their services. 

Unless you’re prepared to fork out more money because everyone is having such a great time and don’t want to leave the party yet, it’s best to avoid overtime charges and keep to your wedding timetable.

4. Trial costs

Most trials (makeup, florist etc) are factored into the packages but if you can do without the trial, ask for a cheaper package. Note too that repeated trials will cost you.

5. Unforeseen costs

Always set aside a sum of money for unforeseen costs that may pop up – tips, transportation costs, extra items to get at the last minute etc.

If you plan your budget well, you may not have to fork out anything extra and this sum will end up being savings.

…which could go into your honeymoon expenses for some much needed post-wedding R&R.
