Paying your family a visit
While there is a long-standing tradition of Chinese brides going home to visit their families during the lunar new year, that usually happens on the second day of the lunar new year. For newlyweds, the first lunar new year visit is known as the "welcoming the son-in-law" day, literally.

Gift giving
Whether you're newly married or not, your husband should buy auspicious gifts, usually a bottle of red wine or tonic wine like Yomeishu, for your parents.
To spread good luck and fortune, couples traditionally should buy new year goodies and "lucky" gifts such as tea sets, bird's nest, ginseng, and so on. If you don't have time to go shopping, a red packet with money for your in-laws to purchase such items or to make new clothes for the year is fine, too.

Starting a family
If you're trying for kids, the first morning of the lunar new year is the best time to try. But in not the way you think. This practice is known as 'walking for luck on the first day of the year', which has been ancient times.
For 2017, couples who are keen to have children should wear their new clothes and walk in the North-West direction for about 200m to 300m. The walk must be done from 6.30am and completed by 7pm, and end at a place of worship, depending on your religion (there was no reference made to any particular place of worship, and feng shui is known as a practice and not a religion). During the walk, try to observe a handicapped person, dogs barking, sounds of drums, sedans/ vehicles from the north. And once you've reached the place of worship, pray for a child.
