For your wedding day (or any other day for that matter), you’ll want makeup that looks like you’re actually wearing none at all. Here, tips to nail that flawless finish for a bridal glow.

#1 Get hydrated

If you’re looking for that dewy glow that Korean celebs possess, there’s only so much your foundation can do. Aside from getting in plenty of H2O, hydrate your skin with a good moisturiser – foundation goes on best on hydrated skin. If you have oily skin or are having your celebration outdoors, opt for a lightweight water- or gel-based formula.

To try: The Eve Lom ($125) moisturiser promises to control shine, minimises excess sebum production and even treat blemishes (thanks to antiseptic witch hazel and cornflower waters, oil-controlling Swiss alpine flower and blemish-targeting salicylic acid) while offering weightless hydration.

#2 Prime prime prime

Prepping skin with primer is key to a flawless complexion. What it does: Turns your skin into a smooth surface and holds down your base for longer staying power. Blurring primers also minimise the look of pores and wrinkles for a more refined appearance.

To try: One of my go-to is Tatcha’s The Silk Canvas Filter Finish Protective Primer. This multi-tasking primer with silk extracts (it already sounds ultra-luxurious) creates a velvety smooth base while diminishing the appearance of pores. It even protects your skin with Japanese superfoods, green tea, rice and algae and anti-pollution active ingredients.

#3 Keep it light

The ultimate #weddingskingoal is when your skin still looks like, well, skin.

With a good complexion, you don’t have to cover up too much – just apply where you need it and not on the entire face. A sheer foundation with skincare benefits will give you that seamless look you’re after without caking, or looking like you have a pound of makeup on. Another tip: Liquid foundation, compared to creams or powders, look more natural since they are more buildable and emulate the texture of your skin.

To try: The new Shu Uemura Unlimited Foundation boasts a lightweight, breathable and buildable formula that promises up to 16 hours of staying power. I love how it imparts a seamlessly natural look while offering decent coverage upon the first application and can be layered on. Plus, it’s available in 24 shades specially tailored for Asian skin tones! Available in March 2019.

#4 Use the right tools

There are different brushes and sponges for different skin types, foundation formulas and your preferred finish. Flat brushes are great for liquid foundations and allow for building up of coverage. It’s best applied in outward strokes.

If you’re looking to achieve an air-brushed effect, a good buffing brush will definitely help. To start, pump out a small amount of liquid foundation on the back of your hand, dip the tip of the brush into it, then sweep it into your skin in small circular motions, starting from the centre outwards. The buffing process helps foundation adhere better to the skin and gives better longevity.

#5 Get glowing

“I like to mix a drop of Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream All-Over Miracle Oil with its Flawless Finish Perfectly Satin 24 Hour Makeup Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 15 foundation. It’s long-lasting, lightweight, and doesn’t feel sticky or too heavy at all.” – Beno Lim, makeup artist.

#6 Set it

To really get your foundation lasting all day, set it with a loose translucent powder. Dip your puff in the powder, fold it and lightly rub together, tap off the excess then gently roll it over your face to seal it.
