Recently, I was talking to a friend about needing to get away with my significant other, leave the kids and work behind and reconnect. And so we got to talking about sexy weekend getaways. He passionately launched into a (short) list of what he thought was most important when it came to finding the right hotel. Key takeaway: “You don’t want something too romantic or too grand and luxurious. All that can be too distracting. Look for something boutique, something sleek. But, also must be nice lah.”
It got me thinking about hotel sexy times and how much fun it can be to get on a flight, land in a new city, and lock yourself in a sexy hotel room for a few hours. Maybe you then resurface for some food, a dip in the pool, perhaps even a spa treatment. But after that, the goal is to return to the room and spend that time well (honestly, that also includes a good night's sleep, and you should be spent enough by then to have it!).
So having recently just gotten back from my own sexy weekend getaway, here are a few hotels with rooms that will get you in the mood - many of them tried and tested, plus some on my "to-do" list. Next time you’re looking to get away with your SO, might we suggest heading to one of these?
The Banyan Tree’s newest and most luxurious outpost in Bali, this adults-only resort is all about shutting out the outside world and experiencing all that Bali has to offer in this lush, jungle environment. There are eco-centric spa treatments, and wellness therapies to help you get in tune to your inner needs, not to mention jungle journeys and Jamu-making classes to immerse you in the local culture. Beyond that, each villa (called a bale) has its own private pool and an air cooling system in place of energy-sucking air conditioning. With packages that include daily snacks and full-board meals, there’s really no reason to venture beyond the resort.

We love Phuket for a sexy weekend away, but there are so many options it’s hard to pick just one. That’s ok, plenty of reasons to go back again and again. The Slate, just ten minutes from the airport, comes highly recommended by friends who love its tin-mining-inspired vibe, dark wood interiors contrasted with nature-inspired touch points. Rooms, suites and villas are sexy with modern Thai accents as well as balconies or private pools. The hotel has three pools, two of which are adults-only which makes for a romantic, quiet swim.
For a different vibe, we also like COMO Point Yamu, further South East. Its pristine white exteriors are complimented by a gorgeous turquoise blue tile design in the bathrooms, expansive rooms and plush beds. The Mediterranean vibe is strong and sexy here (while the health-focused food is sure to boost your stamina and strength). Its famously Instagrammable pool is also a great place to relax.
Naturally we didn’t ask for too many details but when we heard, “friend booked it for a dirty weekend and it went very well,” we definitely bookmarked it for future Bangkok trips. The hotel has a boudoir feel, with scratch-stained mirrors, copper fixtures and a spiral staircase made to makeout on. It looks as though Gatsby had a party and it was frozen in time. The hotel sits in the middle of the busy Chinatown district of Bangkok and can be quite noisy, but it’s quite possible you won’t notice this yourself. Best yet, this affordable option starts at just $88 a night.

Make this a special, sexy vacation away with a stay at the Bill Bensley-designed Shinta Mani Wild, which you can access via zipline. Adventure junkies will love its immersive, natural experience, not without all the luxuries of a five-star hotel. The hotel only contains 15 tents nestled in the national park which, in contrast to the popular minimalist aesthetic, are all extravagant and opulently decked out with vibrantly coloured walls and furniture. This is an all-inclusive resort so everything from your meals to your spa treatments are included in the price.

One of Singapore’s newest additions to its luxury hotel roster, The Edition may sit just off the busy Orchard Road, but once you enter its curtained doors, you’re destined to feel a world away – and oftentimes that’s just what you need to get in the mood right? The rooms are dressed in sexy shades of cream and wood, and have that chillaxed Miami vibe we’d all pretty much want more of in our lives. The wooden slides on the window really enable you to close out the rest of the world. The Deluxe King (and above) room type also comes with a marble bath tub which as I’ve said before, options.

A trip to experience Japan’s most famous mountain views is guaranteed to bring you closer and inspire some closeness with your SO. Hoshinoya Fuji’s “glamping” concept see’s cabin-style rooms offering beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. In the summer, there’s hiking, canoeing and electric bike tours, while in the cooler months you can toast marshmallows round the outdoor firepit. Approximately three and a half hours drive from Narita International Airport, Hoshinoya Fuji is a sexy escape for nature lovers who want to commune with the surroundings (and each other).

If you ask Hong Kong lovers (or lovers in Hong Kong), The Upper House ranks high on everyone’s list for a sexy staycation. There’s something about this modern retreat in the middle of Admiralty that has captured everyone’s romantic imagination. Perhaps it’s because amidst the densely populated and busy downtown area, The Upper House is a beacon of quiet and relaxation, with its outdoor garden spaces and minimalist rooms with lots of daylight. Check-in, enjoy the view and stay all day. If you ever need to come up for sustenance there’s always Pacific Place Mall right below, or the elegant Cafe Grey as another option.

The view, the opulence, the comfortable king-sized bed, there’s a lot here to get you in the mood and we’ve had a friend personally vouch for the Mandarin Room with floor-to-ceiling windows, and an elegant, circular bathtub which provides…options. There’s something about the touch of Chinese design, not too heavy but not too modern that lends to the romantic, sexy atmosphere. If you choose to venture out of the room, take a dip in the 25-metre indoor pool, complete with jacuzzi tubs for an indulgent soak or head to the spa featuring 13 spa suites to massage out any leftover kinks.

Millennials might know this as the hotel where The Hangover II was filmed and it is definitely up there for the glam factor, but also because no one will ever bother you here. There are only 54 suites and villas at this resort spread over expansive grounds you can explore by buggy. The resort offers day-time boat trips to Hong Island (to add a little romance, this can be accompanied by a private picnic) as well as an amazing spa and infinity pool. But really with rooms so lavish (suites feature their own private pools, rooms have private jacuzzis) you won’t want to do anything but luxuriate in privacy and roll around on the 4-metre wide beds.

Say you don’t have much time to plan a long getaway with your lover, this Bintan hotel makes it easier than ever to escape Singapore and feel like you’re a world away. One of Bintan’s fancier options, The Sanchaya is all warm woods and luxury, with villas and suites that feature a mix of modern Asian and colonial-style furniture. The bathrooms are also decidedly sexy. They’re immediately comfortable and the perfect setting to spend a weekend cuddled up together in bed or on the verandah. The Dining Room and The Bar provide excellent cuisine and great cocktails to complete the weekend getaway.
