Some may prefer roughing it while on holiday but if beauty sleep is a must, luxury hotels are still the easiest option to turn to. If you’re looking for an indulgent holiday abroad, here’s some good news: that trip may cost less than you would expect.

According to Hotels.com’s Hotel Price Index, average room rates at four-star hotels of major cities have dipped significantly in January to June 2011, as compared to the rates in the first half of 2010.
Shanghai hotels with a five-star rating have experienced the largest price drop in room rates; the room rate fell by 25 per cent in the period surveyed. Average room prices at New York’s top-end hotels have dropped by 15 per cent while four-star hotels in Tokyo have lowered their rates by 13 per cent.

Luxurious hotel stays at European cities Paris, Rome, Madrid and Amsterdam have also fallen by 13 per cent, 11 per cent, seven per cent and 13 per cent respectively.
