You might want to sit down for this one – only not in a restaurant. A new report out of the US has come up with a list of the top 10 germ-infested surfaces in eateries across the country and found that restaurant seats are the germiest.

For their investigation, ABC News in the US took swab samples from 10 surfaces in 10 restaurants from three states.

After analysing the samples, the team came up with a list of the dirtiest objects, places and surfaces in a restaurant.

One of the most disturbing findings? The fact that the most common contaminant detected on lemon wedges was human fecal matter, likely due to poor hygiene among restaurant workers and bar staff, while on seats it was strains of E. coli.

Here are the top 10 hotspots for bacteria and germs in a restaurants:
10. Salad bar tongs

8. Bathroom facets
7. Bathroom door knobs
