Looking simply to disconnect while on leave and desperate for some respite? Senior Features Writer Adora Wong gives the lowdown on how you can go about shattering some bottles (and your feelings) at The Fragment Room.

I’m not the sort to show outward aggression like shout, slam doors or get violent when angry or upset (my aggression is typically passive, so I succumb to being sarcastic or making snide remarks). So I was sceptical about how cathartic a rage session ($38 for one person) would be, especially since I wasn’t particularly irate that day.

But even though The Fragment Room touts itself as a “rage room”, you don’t have to be angry to have a good time. Upon hearing my moans about work, the staff set up a monitor and keyboard for me to wreck – that was quite funny, if not sweet, and I had a laugh batting the gadgets.

You can chill out with some beers after at the cosy sitting area

Then came bottle throwing. The first one bounced off the wall sadly, which was disheartening, and I had to fumble around for a bit to ensure that the rest would shatter. It was satisfying watching the bottle smashed to smithereens, even though I wasn’t even feeling wrathful.

My session came to a close with me bashing a hollow Beethoven bust. It broke almost too easily, but I suppose better that than leaving just a couple of feeble scratches.

The hollow Beethoven bust that makes an easy smash.

Would I come back? Yes, and I’d probably bring friends along. I can see why some people might find this cathartic, especially if they’re feeling stressed or angry. And, admittedly, it was fun – how often do you get to be this destructive without any consequences and within the confines of a safe space? Plus, I appreciate how easy it is to get down to business: just drop by, suit up, pick out your weapons and you’re good to go. The best part? You can wind down with a beer from the selection they have available on-site.
