If The Expendables has shown us anything – aside from testosterone-infused action sequences, of course – it’s that a little salt and pepper in the hair can give some men plenty of flavour.
Released in cinemas yesterday, The Expendables 2, starring the industry’s toughest cookies has proved that sometimes old really is gold. So this week, we take a look at the men who sizzle on our screens today as much as they did in their prime.
We’re convinced that almost every action-figure ever manufactured was based upon a model of this Swedish hunk. Best known for numerous bad-a** (and shirtless) roles such as Rocky’s imposing Russian opponent in Rocky IV, He-Man in Masters of the Universe, and more recently, Gunner Jensen in The Expendables movies, his chiselled jaw and bodybuilder physique have withstood the test of time, even if he does have a few more lines on his forehead. Nothing we’d worry about though, especially since Lundgren’s about as manly as a man can get.
Most men wouldn’t think about wearing tight leather pants and a sleeveless vest that exposes your slightly-greying chest at the age of 50, but Bon Jovi is not like most men. Still dazzling audiences with his rocker swag and full head of glossy hair, we love how he’s also actively involved in politics, proving that you really can’t judge a book by it’s cover. That and how he’s set up a soup kitchen for the underprivileged are only adding to the list of reasons why we’re All About Lovin’ Him.
This Irish hottie exudes such an air of cool credibility that we only need to mention the names of movies he’s worked on and you’ll understand why he deserves a spot on this list. Schindler’s List, Les Miserables, Star Wars, Taken, Battleship… you feeling us yet? Standing at a towering 1.93m, his lean, lanky frame and sweet smile make for a thoroughly endearing combination that warms the very cockles of our hearts.
Those piercing – see what we did there? – blue eyes and that charismatic smile! It’s no wonder Brosnan was chosen to play secret agent, 007 in five James Bond movies, and sauve financier, Thomas Crown in The Thomas Crown Affair. Embodying all the qualities women love in a man – charm, a sense of humour, well-defined features and lips that should only be used for kissing – this debonair gentleman is truly attractiveness personified.
What’s more romantic than a man who loves poetry, music and painting? A man who has the gorgeous grey peepers of Mortensen and loves poetry, music and painting, of course. You’ll remember him for his stellar performances as the heroic Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the captivating lead in A History of Violence. But what we’d really like is to have him read some of his poems to us every night. That’s not too much to ask, is it?
