Jonathan Rhys Meyers to play new television 'Dracula'With the many vampire shows on television, from True Blood to The Vampire Diaries, and films including The Twilight Saga, NBC-TV will bring the ultimate vampire back on the small screen with the simply named Dracula, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Mission Impossible III, The Tudors).

The television network is rebooting the Bram Stoker version of Dracula and has ordered 10 episodes of the series.

The series depicts Dracula as an American in Victorian London. While he pretends he wants to introduce modern science, he actually seeks revenge. Then his plans are disrupted when he falls in love with a woman who seems to be his reincarnated wife.

Dracula is based on a script by co-executive producer Cole Haddon. Other executive producers have impressive credentials, including former president of HBO Films and Emmy winner Colin Callender, who made The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, and Tony Krantz (24, Sports Night).

Rhys Meyers also stars in Belle du Seigneur with Marianne Faithfull, to be scheduled.
