Film trailer: 'The Master' with Phoenix and AdamsThe first trailer for The Master starring Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line) was released May 21, creating a buzz online for an intriguing drama from director Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Magnolia, Boogie Nights).

Set in the 1950s, the drama focuses on a charismatic man known as “the master” of a faith-based organization and a young drifter who becomes his disciple as the organization takes hold.

It also stars Amy Adams (The Fighter) and Philip Seymour Hoffman (Moneyball) as the leader of the unusual religious group.

The unsettling footage features Phoenix in an interrogation with a military officer asking about sleeping habits and forgotten incidents, with cutaways to a beach, the repairing of a ship, and other seemingly random images.

According to Cigarettes and Red Vines, an Anderson fan site, the atmospheric music may be by Radiohead member Jonny Greenwood, who scored There Will Be Blood, Anderson’s last film.

The Master releases in October in North America and rolls out this fall in other markets.
