Abercrombie & Fitch’s first outlet in Singapore opens on Thursday, December 15, but the brand’s “ambassadors” have already been making waves on Orchard Road.

Dressed only in red sweatpants and slippers, the 40 or so male models will be standing in a row outside the store from 11am to 5pm until the opening.

According to the brand the guys have been “carefully selected from A&F stores in the USA, Japan, Italy, England, France, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Germany and Belgium” and there are also a couple of local guys as well.

A&F says that the concept of these “shirtless greeters” debuted in Milan in 2009 and has been the brand’s standard practice for all its flagship store openings since then.

The brand came under a bit of scrutiny over its building-high male torso advertisement which was removed after complaints earlier in the year; hopefully 40 or so life-sized naked torsos won’t be as off-putting.

Abercrombie & Fitch’s first outlet in Singapore will be located at 270 Orchard Road, in the Knightsbridge building, and opens at 10am on Thursday, December 15, 2011.
