Tucked within Tokyo’s dazzling new Azabudai Hills district, Janu Tokyo isn’t just another luxury hotel—it’s a statement. Launched in March 2024, this highly anticipated space is the first outpost of Aman Resorts’ new sister brand, bringing a fresh, vibrant energy to the world of high-end hospitality.

Unlike Aman’s signature hushed exclusivity, Janu Tokyo offers a more social and dynamic luxury experience—without compromising on impeccable design. Expect world-class dining, an expansive wellness sanctuary, and interiors that blend Japanese minimalism with bold European accents for a stay that’s as sophisticated as it is spirited.

Conveniently located between Roppongi-Itchome and Kamiyacho stations, the hotel puts the city at your doorstep. It’s also just moments away from must-visit spots like the teamLab Borderless: MORI Building Digital Art Museum, making it the perfect base for both exploration and indulgence.

The rooms

Janu Tokyo offers a wide selection of hotel rooms for you to choose from, ranging from the Deluxe Room (55 sqm) to the Janu Suite, the latter of which spans 284 square metres in size.

Here, each room features floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe the space in natural light, alongside sleek interiors that blend Japanese minimalism with contemporary European influences. Expect plush king-sized beds, deep soaking tubs, and private balconies in select suites, offering breathtaking views of Tokyo’s skyline. As a matter of fact, there are also rooms within the compound which offer unprecedented views of the Tokyo Tower and light up beautifully at night.

During our visit, we stayed in the Premier Room King room which overlooks Tokyo’s beautiful city skyline. While I didn’t get to enjoy the views of the Tokyo Tower, you could still see it if you peek your head out the balcony.

Sleeping on the plush king-sized bed was truly a treat and the thoughtful in-room features located by the bedside made winding down even more effortless. You can control the light switches without getting out of bed and it’s also equipped with universal outlets right by the nightstand, so you can charge your devices with ease.

Within the room, you’ll also find a living area that comes with a cosy couch, a sleek coffee table and two armchairs that are perfect for lounging. Beside it, you’ll find a well-stocked in-room minibar that’s filled with a curated selection of Japanese teas, complimentary sodas, juices and water, as well as premium beers, wines and sakes that you can indulge in for an additional charge, so you won’t have to go out of your way to find the nearest convenience store to get your fill at night.

For those who need a caffeine fix in the morning, you’ll be glad to know that the room has its own Nespresso machine, so you can make your daily cup of coffee before heading down for the hotel’s breakfast.

On the other side of the room, there’s also a work desk which is great if you need some space to reply to some emails, and it comes with an iPad that’s used to control everything including the lighting and provides you with more information about the hotel’s services.

One of the few touchpoints that I was truly impressed with was the TV that was cleverly tucked away in the lift cabinet beside the bed that can be pulled up with a click of a button on the remote and it doesn’t get in the way of the breathtaking floor-to-ceiling city views from the balcony.

The bathroom, on the other hand, is one of the biggest ones I’ve seen in Tokyo yet. It features a huge bathtub with dual sinks and separate cubicles for the toilet and the rainfall shower area. A unique feature of the bathroom is the sliding shoji screen panels which can be opened up to the room so you can watch the TV while you’re taking a hot bath or closed off if you need more privacy.

But that’s not all, the room also has its own walk-in wardrobe for two which offers you more space than you’ll ever need to unpack your luggage and separate closets for you to store your items for you and your plus one.

Food & Beverage options

Janu Tokyo is home to an extensive array of F&B options with eight unique dining destinations for you to choose from. Open to both hotel guests and visitors, some of the notable dining options include:

Janu Mercato

Janu Mercato is the hotel’s all-day dining destination, serving up a refined selection of Italian dishes—from handmade pasta to gourmet charcuterie and cheeses. Seafood lovers will also be spoiled for choice, with a generous array of fresh fish and shellfish prepared to order.

Beyond the menu, the restaurant’s design is just as captivating. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light, while a striking olive tree art installation takes center stage, adding a distinct Mediterranean touch. The open-concept layout is anchored by three bustling open kitchens, creating an inviting, lively atmosphere where guests can watch chefs in action as they craft each dish to perfection.

SUMI

One of the few things I really appreciate about the hotel is that you don’t have to travel far to get your omakase fix. In fact, at SUMI – a Japanese sumibiyaki grill located on the third floor of the Janu Tokyo Annex Building – you’ll find a savoury 12-course menu that’s made with some of the finest seasonal ingredients cooked over charcoal. To top it all off, you get to soak in the breathtaking views of Tokyo Tower through floor-to-ceiling windows, making the entire dining experience even more special. Despite the limited seating that provides guests with an interactive experience, there are other table seats that are available in the restaurant for you to enjoy your meal with your loved ones as well.

Janu Bar

Fancy a tipple or two? Peep Janu Bar – the hotel’s very own bar that’s helmed by one of Japan’s leading mixologists, Shuzo Nagumo. Inspired by the city itself, you’ll find thoughtfully curated libations that are inspired by the different districts in Tokyo, alongside classic options that are sure to please.
