Qi Yuwu misses family weekends with Joanne Peh and their children as he launches TikTok live-selling career

Singapore-based actor Qi Yuwu has officially added TikTok live seller to his growing list of roles.

The Guangzhou-born actor made his debut livestream on July 15, following in the footsteps of his wife, actress Joanne Peh, who has also ventured into live commerce. For his first broadcast, Qi chose to sell Chinese freshwater pearls, personally hand-selecting the pieces in Zhuji, Zhejiang—a city widely regarded as China’s freshwater pearl capital.

In the lead-up to his debut, Qi gave his TikTok followers a behind-the-scenes look at the process. Through a series of videos, he documented his factory visits, explained how he selected the pearls, and introduced some of the specialised tools used to assess their quality.

At the time of writing, Qi has amassed more than 3,300 followers on TikTok.

Beyond showcasing the products, the actor has been candid about his philosophy towards live selling.

“I will only choose good products, not expensive ones,” he wrote in one post, adding that he was grateful for viewers’ trust while acknowledging that “trust isn’t built overnight”.

That message has carried through into his livestreams, where he repeatedly stresses that his priority is offering viewers worthwhile products rather than relying on aggressive sales tactics.

He has joked that he feels more comfortable with each livestream but remains focused on creating a relaxed shopping experience instead of employing pushy sales techniques.

The actor has also offered fans a glimpse into the personal sacrifices that come with his new venture.

In a TikTok video posted two days ago, Qi shared that he was spending a Sunday alone in Hangzhou instead of with his family in Singapore. Sundays are typically reserved for his two children with Joanne Peh—a daughter born in 2015, affectionately nicknamed “Baby Qi”, and a son born in 2017, whom the couple calls “Qi Didi”.

While he admitted it felt like “a different kind of weekend”, Qi said the encouragement from viewers had made him feel less alone, adding that the support from netizens had kept him warm despite being away from home.

Joanne, who remained in Singapore with their children, has also been cheering him on from afar. During his livestreams, she has popped into the comments to offer words of encouragement—including complimenting his outfit—as he embarks on his latest career chapter.
