Drink up, for Singapore. More than 150 revellers are expected to go on a pub crawl in August to celebrate the country’s 48th birthday.

The inaugural National Day Pub Crawl will see participants hopping across five nightspots in the Boat Quay and Clarke Quay area on August 8, 2013.

The crawl will start at 7pm, at a gathering point in Raffles Place, before moving on to the first pub.

Pubgoers will spend about an hour at each venue, but can stay till late at the fifth and final venue – a nightclub in Clarke Quay.

Organisers for the event are keeping mum about the venues for now to surprise those who sign up. Other event perks include free shots, no cover charge and exclusive drink deals.

The event is organised by WATSinside, a free lifestyle mobile app that offers updates on the entertainment and nightlife scene; and Singapore Pub Crawl, which organises pub-crawl events on a regular basis.

Mr Rodrigo Dela Pena, 31, head of marketing communications of WATSinside, says: “This event is the first of its kind, and we wanted to celebrate National Day with a big bang.”

Miss Maria Cheok, 23, an undergraduate at the Singapore Institute of Management who has signed up for the event, says: “It’s a great way to meet and mingle. Usually, I watch the fireworks with friends, so this will be another good way to spend my National Day.”

Download mobile applications WATSinside and ST Happenings! from the Apple App store for more details of the pub crawl. WATSinside is also available on Google Play. ST Happenings! is a free lifestyle application launched by The Straits Times last year, which lists food, entertainment and arts listings published in the Life!Weekend section of The Straits Times every Friday. It also offers movies, music, food and arts recommendations.

Tickets – priced at $28 for early birds and $35 for standard admission – are available through the WATSinside application. Payment is made via PayPal. For inquiries, call WATSinside on 6933-9901.
