After nearly two decades of marriage, local entertainers Priscelia Chan and Alan Tern continue to embody #relationshipgoals. As Alan celebrates his 49th birthday on March 31, we take a look back at their enduring relationship and how they’ve kept the spark alive over the years.
When faced with minor frustrations, like differing living habits, it helps to address concerns playfully rather than confrontationally.
In a 2020 podcast with the local media, Priscelia Chan shared a lighthearted example from when she and Alan Tern first moved in together.
Although Alan is usually particular about hygiene, he once left his unwashed socks in the bathroom for so long that it started to bother her. Rather than confronting him immediately, she waited four days and then found a playful way to address it. She jokingly told him that they were “growing mushrooms” in the bathroom and kitchen because of his socks. Alan laughed, and the issue was quickly resolved.
By using lighthearted humor, Priscelia was able to bring attention to an issue without causing tension—turning a potential argument into a moment of laughter and understanding. This approach not only resolves conflicts smoothly but also strengthens the bond between partners.
Priscelia’s journey through a severe skin condition that altered her appearance tested both her strength and her marriage. At her lowest point, the “Emerald Hill” star struggled to recognise herself and even withdrew from the public eye to focus on her recovery.
Throughout this difficult time, Alan, remained a constant source of love and support. In 2018, the actress opened up about her experience on social media: “When I couldn’t even recognise myself when I looked in the mirror, and when my colleagues couldn’t even recognise me on the street with my mask on... But you still tell me I am beautiful in your eyes. Thank you for loving me in sickness and in health Alan Tern.”
Priscelia and Alan may not have children of their own, but they’ve found joy and purpose by staying closely connected to their extended family. With nine nieces and nephews on Alan’s side, they actively support the younger generation, even offering moments of relief during stressful times like national examinations. By being the “fun auntie and uncle,” they provide emotional support and a safe space for their loved ones to unwind.
When it comes to not having children themselves, Priscelia—who addressed the topic in a 2024 interview promoting the drama Born to Shine, where she plays a mother of two—approaches it with grace and acceptance. While there were moments in her 20s and 30s when Priscelia wondered about parenthood, she is at peace with how life unfolded. Rather than allowing societal expectations to affect their relationship, they focus on the love they share and the strong bond they have with both sides of their family.
Supporting your partner’s dreams and celebrating their milestones strengthens your bond. When Priscelia shared her joy on social media about Alan’s dream coming true—watching a game at Liverpool—it highlighted the importance of being genuinely happy for each other’s achievements. Whether big or small, sharing in your partner’s success shows that you’re truly invested in their happiness.
Spending quality time together, like Priscelia and Alan did at the Jay Chou concert in 2024, is a great way to keep the relationship fun and exciting. Whether it’s enjoying a concert, dancing, or simply reliving special memories, scheduling regular date nights can help you reconnect and keep the relationship fun and fresh.
