Sometimes, we just want to take our music along with us and share it with others. There are tonnes of portable speakers in the market with great technical specifications. But we’re going for the most charming and eye-catching, because we’re superficial that way. And also because we want to impress whoever’s on the guest list of our next party.
From retro-inspired to multi-hued to pastel shades and more, here are some of the prettiest portable speakers to cart around with you when you are in need of a melody.
1. Marshall Stockwell

British brand Marshall is best known for its high-powered guitar amplifiers, but it has a whole range of user-friendly, customer-focused headphones and speakers under a separate Marshall Headphones brand. Oh and did we mention how gorgeous they are? Its speakers boast a signature vintage look with traditional front fret, turn knobs and an iconic script logo.
The Marshall Stockwell is its smallest travel speaker, weighing just 1.2kg. But don’t dismiss this lean machine; with two 2.25 inch woofers and a two-channel class D amplifier, it packs a solid punch, making it the loudest speaker in its class. Play music wirelessly through its bluetooth technology and control the volume, bass and treble through its gold knobs.
With a rechargeable battery that can play up to 25 hours, you’re guaranteed good sound quality for a long time while you’re on the road.
2. UB+ Eupho Bluetooth Speaker

Don’t underestimate the size of this compact speaker. This product under a new audio brand by Singapore-based company TGI Technology packs a rich and wholesome sound, as though the performance is right in front of you. This is thanks to the patented ORCHAS technology, which allows Eupho to have full-range point source sound, minimal external vibration and clean bass reproduction.
Each speaker, which weighs only 120g and is in warm grey or black, comes with a free expansion casing too.
3. Muzen OTR Metal

Are you into all things vintage? Then this pretty little speaker will thrill your socks off. Muzen Audio’s OTR series of portable speakers are inspired by radio sets of the 60s, boasting a retro design with turn knobs and finished with an attractive acrylic stoving enamel coating that is the same type of paint used to finish automobiles in the 1960s. The set can be charged via USB, with a battery life of up to 10 hours, and has bluetooth function.
There’s a colour for every one — we love the crimson red and flamingo pink, but there’s also mint green, jet black, sky blue and lavender purple. Best of all, it comes in a handy little hard briefcase and a leather padded carrying case as well. Bonus: it has radio functions too, how’s that for a throwback!

Good sound quality is par for the course, but how about getting a speaker that dances with bright colours as it plays its tunes, like a unicorn lit from within? JBL’s Pulse 3 not only plays music, it also projects a 360 degree light show and looks pretty as a picture with its different shades of hues.
Choose from a black or white casing, with shades such as blue and purple, green and blue and yellow and purpole. It weighs just 0.96kg, is waterproof, and has a built-in rechargeable battery that provides up to 12 hours of playtime.
6. Fender Newport Bluetooth Speaker (Sonic Blue or Dakota Red)

Guitar enthusiasts will love this speaker that sports a retro design resembling the look of a ’60s Fender guitar amp. With metal speaker grills, old school analog control knobs and a sturdy casing, it’s a gorgeous piece to display in your home or when you’re at a BBQ or home party. It also has a rechargeable battery for up to 12 hours of play, two woofers and one tweeter and aptX and AAC codec support that lets you enjoy clear, high-quality bluetooth wireless sound.
7. Audio Pro Bluetooth Speaker Addon T3 (Green)

Minimal, stylish with clean sleek lines — that’s what you get with this portable speaker from Scandinavian brand Audio Pro. It’s small yet elegant, with a crisp sound that has clear treble and deep bass. This model won the Best Portable Speaker Award (£100 to £250) in the 2017 What Hi-Fi? Awards, and why not? Its rechargeable battery lasts 30 hours at half volume and 12 hours at full volume and it’s made of quality materials such as genuine leather and solid aluminium.
It also has a Digital Class D amplifier, a 2 3/4 inch textile dome tweeter and a 3.5 inch woofer. Specs aside, it’s just darn pretty and rustic.
8. Ultimate Ears Wonderboom Bluetooth Speaker (Unicorn)

We just can say no to anything unicorn. This girly portable speaker might be just palm-sized, but it has surprisingly bright sound. We love that it’s completely waterproof — it floats! — so you can take it with you to a pool or beach party, a muddy music fest, or when you need some soothing tunes during a soak in the bath.
Its rechargeable battery has 10 hours of play time and this handy machine also has a hanging loop at the top so you can attach it to your bag or bicycle and get music on the go. Functions are minimal — with just a play/pause/skip button and a power on/off button — but sometimes that’s all you need.
