Planning a trip in 2025? Let astrology guide your way

There’s a growing number of travellers who are basing their travel destinations on their star signs in the hope that the destination vibes even better than expected

It’s probably an understatement to say that Singaporeans love to travel, personally I’ve pretty much “visited” the whole of Japan thanks to my IG feed this year. As a result sometimes it’s hard to find somewhere new to go and which might offer something unique to you.

In 2025, Skyscanner is predicting that one big travel trend is going to be the use of astrology to determine must-visit destinations. “Astrology’s influence is stronger than ever, with over half (55%) of Singapore travellers believing in astrology,” says Cyndi Hui, Skyscanner Travel Trends and Destination Expert. “For some, this belief in astrology goes beyond just casual interest, with 55% interested in taking astrology into consideration while planning their travels and letting the star signs guide their next travel destination.” 

Does your star sign affect how you like to travel?

“There are certain placements in each individual’s natal chart that can determine whether travelling would benefit them” says Pearlyn Siu who runs Transmission Wellness, and does a mix of energy and astrology readings. Stephanie Chaunte Leong, a Somatic Therapist, Cosmic Oracle, Quantum Healer, and Astrologer who runs Soma Psyche Alchemy adds that astrology can play an important role in life transitions due to planetary placements that offer a unique doorway to opportunity. “For example, the sun is where we shine — it’s about vitality, confidence, and what makes us come most alive, while Jupiter is expansive and lucky — it’s like a big “yes” from the universe, showing us where we have opportunities. Neptune is dreamy and intuitive, opening doors to creativity, spirituality, and surrendering to flow.”

Cyndi also notes that this trend is seen predominantly in millennials (aged 25 to 34), which does not surprise Stephanie. “This generation is naturally curious and open to exploring alternative ways to find meaning and direction in their lives,” she says. “One reason for this is the unique energy of millennials — many of them have Pluto in Scorpio in their natal charts. Pluto moved through Scorpio from 1983 to 1995, which means millennials are strongly connected to themes of transformation, empowerment, and personal reinvention. It’s no surprise that many millennials are drawn to astrology and self-awareness tools.”

Is it ok to travel when mercury is in retrograde?

This trend also extends to caution when travelling during astrological events, such as Mercury Retrograde. Cyndi notes that 44% of travellers think planetary/lunar activities can impact their holidays. But Pearlyn cautions generalising this. “While astrological events and phenomena can affect travel plans, it is really tricky to give a general read.” Stephanie also adds that there are other astrological events that can affect a person’s travel plans including Full and New Moons, eclipses and Saturn and Venus retrogrades. “Saturn retrograde, which happens once a year, is a time of reflection, discipline, and reassessment. If you’re travelling to make big life decisions or to reconnect with something from your past, Saturn’s influence might bring up themes of responsibility or limits. Venus retrograde, meanwhile, can affect relationships and travel plans related to love, money, and pleasure, so it’s wise to avoid making major relationship decisions or embarking on romantic getaways during this time.”

While astrology can have a real impact on travel, both Pearlyn and Stephanie caution against making it your main deciding factor. Says Stephanie, “Like any tool, astrology can be overused or misinterpreted. The risk is that it can become a crutch, where people rely too heavily on it instead of trusting their own intuition or making grounded decisions based on their unique circumstances. It’s important to approach astrology with curiosity and discernment, rather than using it as a rigid rulebook.” Adds Pearlyn, “I find having discernment with anything we seek guidance from extremely important. Being able to seek counsel from an astrological or metaphysical standpoint can be supportive of our decision making process, as long as we do not take it as the only way to make a choice.”
