Pangdemonium, the Singapore theatre company behind productions such as The Full Monty and Into The Woods, is bidding adieu at the end of this year.
Over the course of its 16-year run, Pangdemonium – led by husband-and-wife team Adrian and Tracie Pang – brought Broadway and West End productions to local audiences, much to the delight of theatre lovers in Singapore.
The company also staged works that tackled difficult subject matter, including the acclaimed Falling, directed by Tracie Pang, which explores the intense daily struggles of a family caring for their 18-year-old son with severe autism.
Falling won the Readers’ Choice award for Best Production of the Year at the 2017 M1–The Straits Times Life Theatre Awards, and also took home Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress
Pangdemonium staged Broadway musical Into The Woods in 2023, which starred actor Nathania Ong
In a statement released to the press yesterday, the duo shared: “As a proudly Singaporean theatre company, the past fifteen or so years have been a journey of highs and lows – fulfilment and frustration, triumphs and trials. It has been all-consuming in the most rewarding ways, and at times, the most distressing.”
They emphasised that the decision to close was a “purely personal choice”. A report by The Straits Times quoted National Arts Council (NAC) chief executive Low Eng Teong as saying that NAC had held discussions with Pangdemonium to explore continued operations – but ultimately respected the decision made by Adrian and Tracie Pang.
It’s not too late to mark Pangdemonium’s legacy, with three productions opening from March. Framed by artistic directors Adrian and Tracie Pang as “a series of ass-kicking adventures in theatre,” the season examines how global upheaval and personal turning points shape identity – for better and worse – and force a reckoning with values and inner life.
Here are the ones to book.
Force Majeure – World premiere (March 2026)
Actor and playwright Stephanie Street’s modern take on Chekhov’s Three Sisters reunites her with Tracie Pang after their award-winning Dragonflies. Force Majeure is a stark, contemporary work that examines displacement, longing and resilience – and the impact of being unmoored from the things that shape our identities.
A Mirror – Singapore premiere (June 2026)
Sam Holcroft’s darkly satirical A Mirror places truth at the centre of danger. Set in a tightly controlled society, the production unfolds through a layered play-within-a-play, interrogating power, surveillance and the consequences of speaking out as reality and fiction collide.
Come From Away – Singapore premiere (September 2026)
The Olivier Award–winning musical Come From Away closes Pangdemonium’s season with a story rooted in compassion and solidarity. Directed by Timothy Koh in his musical theatre debut, the production coincides with the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and celebrates humanity in moments of crisis.
