If you're planning an upcoming trip to One&Only Desaru Coast, here's an extra sweetener to make your stay all that more special: The resort's One&Only Spa recently announced a partnership with skincare brand Augustinus Bader. It is the first time a Southeast Asian spa is carrying the brand and guests can look forward to bespoke facial and body treatments using cult favourites like The Rich Cream.

Since its launch in 2018, Augustinus Bader has taken the skincare world by storm. Founded by German stem cell researcher Professor Augustinus Bader, the beauty brand is known for its TFC8® (Trigger Factor Complex 8) technology that revitalises skin to promote a youthful, healthy glow. Lauded by celebrities (think: Victoria Beckham, Haider Ackermann, and Hollywood director Sofia Coppola), the products harness the power of amino acids, high-grade vitamins, and peptides naturally found in the skin.

In this Her World exclusive, we had the opportunity to speak with Christiane Werron Schulz, Executive Director Global Education & Spa for Augustinus Bader, to discuss the brand’s partnership with One&Only Spa Desaru Coast.

Q: Congrats on being the official partner of One&Only Spa Desaru Coast! How did the partnership come about?

We had been in contact with the One&Only brand for some time and also successfully established Augustinus Bader in other Kerzner properties such as Awaken Spa at Atlantis The Royal. As the brand gained attention, the One&Only team reached out to us to look into a possible collaboration in Malaysia.

Q: What’s unique about what’s offered at the O&O Spa?

The One&Only Spa in partnership with Augustinus Bader is the first resort spa in Southeast Asia to feature our transformative treatments. Its unique spa set up includes bespoke elements such as the amazing regional specialties and extraordinarily talented spa therapists.

Q: The history of Augustinus Bader is rooted in science and wound care. How did the switch to beauty/skincare happen?

When Professor Bader was looking for investors to turn his revolutionary wound gel into a medical grade product, he was introduced to Charles Rosier, our CEO & co-founder. Charles had the vision of implementing the groundbreaking science into a commercial product and talked Professor Bader into this – the rest is history. Launched with two heroes in 2018 – The Cream and The Rich Cream – we reached cult status quickly and three years later, we were elected ‘The Greatest Skin Care of All Time’ by Women's Wear Daily in the United States!

Q: How do you approach the balance between scientific rigour and consumer appeal in your product development process?

Serving the skin at the highest individual level according to the skin’s needs in the here and now, with only the best ingredients we can find on the market, powered by the outstanding science of Professor Augustinus Bader and based on consumer feedback and demand.

Q: How does the brand maintains its commitment to both innovation and sustainability?

As this is part of the brand’s DNA, how could we not? You cannot change your genome either! And science doesn’t stop – Professor Bader and the team are constantly on the search for the best to provide lasting results.

Q: What role do you see technology playing in the future of skincare?

Having been at the forefront of stem cell research and regenerative medicine, Professor Bader is a pioneer in epigenetics with his research. With scientific research and innovations playing an important part of the future for skincare, longevity and a healthy lifespan has replaced ‘anti-aging’. This has been the work of Professor Bader until now and will only continue into the future as a continuous process of discovery and development.

Q: What are some upcoming initiatives, products or projects in the pipeline?

We just launched Skin Infusion with advanced TFC8 and the team continues to focus on improvement in this field. We look deep into epigenetic science and have some great new products in the pipeline based on the latest innovations.

Q: What’s your favourite skincare routine or products from the range? And what are the best sellers in Asia/Singapore?

My personal routine:
- Cleanse: The Foaming Cleanser helps to tone and brighten as well
- Prep: I use the Essence to refine the pores, hydrate and softly boost the skin’s natural renewal

Q: Any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs looking to enter the skincare or beauty industry?

Quoting Charles Rosier: We were naïve when we started and didn’t know the industry but we had the best – groundbreaking and disruptive technology and an amazing team of people with an entrepreneurial heart who combine passion and know-how.
