It seems like every other week, a new trend pops up on TikTok – from viral dance routines to hit music and even dating slang terms, the social media platform has it all. 

Personality quizzes – whether it’s the colour personality test or scenarios that reveal a deeper self-understanding – are also popular on the platform. The latest trend in this particular niche? Whether you identify as an Ok Ok Ok girl, or a La La La girl.

Ok Ok Ok vs La La La – the name doesn’t give away much, does it?

Basically, the implication is that there are two types of people in the world. Those who embody a relaxed, composed and chill demeanour are deemed as the “Ok Ok Ok” people. On the other hand, “La La La” are those who are always cheerful, exude perpetual energy and are often the life of the party.

Still confused? Here are some pop culture analogies that might help: Betty (from Archie’s Comics at least, not Riverdale) is La La La while Veronica is Ok Ok Ok; Blair from Gossip Girl is Ok Ok Ok, while Serena is La La La; Euphoria’s Maddy (Maddy Perez) is Ok Ok Ok, while Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) is La La La.

Where did this trend come from?

The trend is actually based on a Tyler, the Creator song featuring Kali Uchis, See You Again. TikTok user Nevon posted a clip of the music playing in the background with two cartoon figures: one wearing sunglasses and mouthing "Ok, Ok, Ok", while the other is dancing and singing "la, la, la". “There’s two types of people listening to See You Again”, writes Nevon. “Either you ok ok ok or la la la.”

In the comments section of the aforementioned viral video, TikTok users began identifying themselves as either one or the other, and that’s how the trend was born.

The personality trend has rapidly gained popularity and is sweeping through TikTok. The main intention is to shed light on the contrasting nature of these two distinct personality types and the “vibe” you give off based on whether you’re more introverted and relaxed or free-spirited and extroverted.
