Do you know a woman, or a man, who has done something significant in the arena of “gender equality”? If you do, you should nominate them for the first ever Gender Equality Awards to be held in Singapore.

The Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) is holding these awards to “honour and recognise the amazing women and men who have defied gender barriers and made a difference by nurturing a culture of gender equality in Singapore”.

AWARE is Singapore’s leading gender equality advocacy group and has been involved in projects to help remove gender-based barriers in Singapore society via research, education, training and support services.

Nominees for the AWARE Gender Equality Awards can come from all walks of life ‒ women who’ve broken into male dominated industries or challenged gender stereotypes or men and women who have nurtured female talent in various fields. They do need to have done something significant over the period of 2010 to 2011.

There are three awards ‒ the AWARE Heroine 2011 and the AWARE Hero 2011 for a female and male respectively and the AWARE Young Wonder 2011 for a person of either sex under 30.

To nominate someone, go to the AWARE Awards Nomination page for more information and to fill in the online nomination form. You can nominate as many people as you like for all three awards but all nominations must be submitted by August 31, 2011.

The winners will be announced at the AWARE fundraising gala event, the Big Ball 2011 on October 17, 2011 at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
